Hi all

Very confused at the moment. I want to build a website but I want to host it on our own VPS. Most of the online webpage builder appear to come with hosting.

What would be the best solution if I want an easy to build program (no programming) and to be able to host the site on our own VPS?

Thanks for any guidance :)

Wordpress. Installation will take you about 5 minutes.

There are loads of tutorials on how to do this. If the vps has got cpanel installed Wordpress can be installed automatically.

Yes, Wordpress would be the obvious choice.

But if your VPS comes with a "naked OS" you'll need apache, PHP and MySQL as well. Don't worry any pro can install that for you in advance and it will take less than a hour of his time.

One thing you still have to think about is maintenance and data security. While your Wordpress may be up and running in 5 minutes, running your own VPS - which is a good idea - means that you are responsible to ensure that the data on this VPS remains available and consistent. An automatic backup strategy that mirrors crucial data constantly is a necessity once your website becomes important for your business.

Seems a strange request.

Why vps ? if you don't know what you going to put on it. I hope it's a managed vps as it sound like you don't have the skills to keep it maintained or configured to take best advantage.

Server app depends on what you want to do with the site. Wordpress is a decent choice for most things but not all.

I'd agree with the other replies that you may not need a VPS if you're starting out with a web store.

In terms of software, I wouldn't recommend WordPress for ecommerce as it's a blogging application. Take a look at OpenCart - www.opencart.com

    Hi There,

If you do not have any previous expertise with VPS I would suggest to look into a shared hosting solution for your online shop. You can easily get shared hosting at very reasonable prices and then you would avoid the hassle of the VPS.

A good ecommerce solution to look into is Prestashop which is a professional, open license - free to use ecommerce platform.

    Best Regards,

    Tim
