The follow is a list of allowable expenses that I can claim for as a taxi-driver but it's difficult to know how much I can claim since some of the items are not used solely for business use but also private use.

Telephone/mobile
Internet
Protective clothing and Cleaning products for car washing
Clothes for work
Use of house as office
Sundries (not sure what would come under this?)

Are there standard amounts that one can claim?
Any other suggestions of allowable expenses?

(I have not included in the list costs of diesel, repairs etc as these amounts are easily ascertained).

Thanks,
Jan

Have a look at the guidance here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/bimmanual/bim47825.htm this explains use of home expenses.

In general terms you need to apportion the expense between business use and private use. For example, you might use a mobile phone for business and private use and after looking at the itemised charges you calculate 70% of the calls are business calls and 30% of the calls are personal calls. You would then expense 70% of the cost of the mobile phone to the business.

Thanks for that - I will look into it. :)
