Hi there

Apparently Xero is a great accounting package. It is online and it can easily be integrated with other systems. My accountant uses Sage and Iris Open Books, but I will switch to Xero as I intend to do our bookkeeping and prepare our VAT in-house instead of paying the accountant to do it - it will save us around £2,500 per year.

Have a look a the Zero website.

Regards

P

Why pay hundreds for Sage payroll when you can get a far superior program from Moneysoft for £60. Integration with accounts isn't a big issue - you can set up a simple "journal" to enter every payday to put the payroll figures in the right place. As for Sage accounts, again, why pay so much. You can get software far cheaper that is probably sufficient, such as VT, Quickbooks, or online such as Kashflow, Xero, etc. Please don't go down the Sage route just because you know it - things have moved on greatly over recent years and Sage looks more and more like an expensive dinosaur.

Doesn't anyone use Kashflow, I would have expected a recommendation for them.
I have been using Liquid Accounts which works but I don't run payroll on it.

I am looking around though.. or will be shortly - after finishing this year's accounts! But am not in a hurry to change as I can use Liquid and have got familiar with it. liquidaccounts.net

I would recommend that you look for free trials of the programs you are considering to get your own grip of functionality and user interface. If you are new to accounting software, it's very often a question of look and feel and your own impression of user friendliness.

I work at E-conomic which is an online accounting system, so I'm of course all biased, but if you decide to try out E-conomic, I would be happy to hear your thoughts. Payroll is not a part of the general package, but can be integrated via an add-on. If your tea room has a webshop, you can integrated that as well.

I'm here to help, if you're interested.
