Galaxy S2 wireless Outlook sync

Hi guys!

Totally new to the Android experience, had my SGS2 delivered yesterday morning which I plan to use for business instead of my Blackberry.

For client data I run a CRM. This is then exported manually to CSV and uploaded into Outlook. (the CRM provider is working on an auto-sync for Outlook but that's another matter).

Anyway, at present I then sync Outlook contacts with my Blackberry manually via USB. However, now I'm switching to the S2 I'm hoping this can all be done automatically, two-way and obviously wirelessly...can it?

I'd then like to take it a step further and have my Outlook calendar and tasks sync on exactly the same basis i.e. auto, two-way & wirelessly...can this be done?

If either/both are possible can someone point me in the right direction please. I've been told to look at Office365 but feel it's a tad OTT for my needs. However, I've got no issue paying for the right app/service if it can all be done.

Btw, I am not techy in the slightest (as per recent threads!) so be warned!!!

Don't think Windows phone wouldve done it over-the-air with your setup anyway. You can plug the Galaxy S2 in and let it sync I think but its not ideal.

Want to get away from syncing via USB if poss, never have time so always forget todo it!!

Will take a look at the two options although I seem to remember Google apps won't sync tasks or something?

I've read about a couple of paid solutions, CompainLink being one I think. Mad to think in 2012 this is still an issue.

I never worry about it anymore, Google syncs the lot automatically.

I'd move it over to Google Apps, then I'd use "Google Apps Sync" to sync it with Outlook. If you then had something to sync your CRM with Outlook - like your provider is trying to create, you'll have the lot "in sync". CRM > Outlook > Google Apps.

You can use an app like GTasks to sync tasks with your phone.

Top man, thanks!

The mind's a tad boggled right now but I'll sit down later to have a read through everything.

Spent half an hour trying to sync my domain mail earlier, any even do that!!!

Haven't started reading the links yet but when you say 'move it over to GA' does that mean I'll no longer use Outlook for anything or is GA just a middle-man so to speak?

You can use GA on the web and also with Outlook using this program:

That would mean you can carry on using Outlook. Your phone will connect to GA with it being Android and sync everything OTA.

Tasks would sync from GA to Outlook. Just not onto the phone. You can access Tasks through a separate app or just on gmail.com/tasks

Fantastic. So in a nutshell, get GA in place along with a third party Task app from the start and everything should sync perfectly from Outlook through to phone and back again without me ever really having to know GA is even there?

I have and it's all working fine now.

There was a delay between sign up and me being able to use the Outlook plug-in but it's all working pretty much ok now.

Many contacts are being duplicated on my phone though which is quite annoying so i'll have to take a quick look at that plus when I mark a task as done via Outlook it doesn't seem to be syncing with my phone.

But apart from those two very minor points all's good.

Help much appreciated btw!! :)

As your phone is Android based, you should get a notification about automatically merging those contacts so that your Contact list doesn't contain duplicates.

It maybe that the app hasn't actually synchronised yet, as it might do it after every so many minutes rather than instantly.

I'm going to wipe my Outlook & GA contacts and import a fresh CSV file at some point to see what happens. I'll also review the settings on my phone.

I upgraded to the paid version of GTasks and everything seems else seems to sync pretty much instantly. It's not a major issue anyway and i'm sure it'll sort itself out in time.

I actually have another Q which I might as well post here instead of starting another thread:

Whilst sitting at my desk with my headset on I would love to be able to answer my client calls and reply to SMS by using my PC instead of the phone itself. It may sound lazy but it'd be so much quicker to just stick the phone in a USB dock or something each morning and then not have to worry about it again all day until I leave.

Is this possible? I've seen something called MOBILedit but the reviews don't seem too clever.

Oh and if anyone can suggest a crisp office based wireless headset that would be fab too as need to get rid of the cord i'm currently using!

Just trying to de-clutter and be more efficient!

I just seems a few old tasks from Outlook aren't syncing with handset which i'm not too fussed about in all honesty. So long as the new ones I create on handset make their way through to Outlook (which they seem to be) then i'm happy.
