    Hi there, I am in the early stages of writing my business plan.
    I am classified as disabled (panic disorder)

    I receive benifits from disability living allowance. I am in scotland
    I have and interview with a advisor at the job centre tommorow and need to know what kind of questions i should be asking him about government grants and registerd charities who give grants to disabled people to start up in bussiness in the u.k.

    If anyone has experience in this i would love to hear from you.

    It's worth noting that in the UK there are well over 3500 grants available to businesses. If the advisor you meet is anything less than exceptional, chances are they won't have a clue about the full potential of grant funding.

    Your local library should have the book of Trusts for 2011. It's fatter than the bible, but allow yourself some time to go through it. If you are setting up as a for-profit entity, trusts may not be a good solution for you.

    We don't tend to work with start ups for a whole number of reasons. However do consider that, as a general rule, most grants require you to match fund or contribute towards the project.

    In England, £75,000,000 has just been released to support start ups who want training, perhaps google whether a similar funding programme now runs in Scotland.

    Funds such as Princes Trust could help you - depending on your age.

    Grants in Scotland are different, so have a look on here, you need to register (it is free)!

    You will need to do a lot of the research yourself, as advisor's normally neither have the time, nor the full up to date list, so basically do not put your faith and trust into anyone else tracking down what is available, the bucks stops with you.

    Also do a search on grants for work, new starts disabled people, just keep putting phrases into Google; and get searching.

    You could contact your library, they may have some information, your job centre might have some information, try sending some emails to the larger charities for disabled people and explain what you are doing, they might have some pointers for you.

    Also ask your local Council, mine does a new start up grant (if you qualify) for up to a £1000 to help with advertising, etc - so see if yours does.

    Basically, try all and sundry, for the cost of a phone call, or the time sending out emails, you might just fall lucky.
