Is myspace.com crap?

I keep finding links to things on myspace.com, and when i go and look it's the biggest pile crap i have ever seen... most sites (if they can be called that) are just a collage of crap all thrown together.

am i missing something here, does anyone think myspace is good/cool/worthwhile or should it be called "wasteofspace.com" ?

myspace is good because:

1.) Its free
2.) Everyone knows what it is and uses it

Myspace is a fad that is a common addition to a business because it's familiar to people. So many people participate in it that its a comfortable place to look at information for potential customers. Even big businesses like Burger King etc have started using it. It is certainly not a substitute for a legitimate corporate website but its not costing you any money and isnt hurting your business by having it.

I think MySpace is crap.

Its only popular because it is "MySpace" and has gained an branded image behind the name. There are so many other better networking sites of MySpace nature.

I have heard it's ok if your targeted audience is teeny boppers. Not for all businesses, think it could do more harm than good for some.

Rupert Murdoch thought otherwise, hence paying 150 million to some college kids who made the damn thing.

I dont use it, never will, but this web 2.0 stuff letting the consumer be at the center seems to be the way forward for alot of major players.
