CMS Installs such as Nuke etc

I have been installing CMS type sites for the last couple of years for various projects, shops, gaming sites community projects. Many come with intergrated e commerce solutions and yet there are still a lot of programmers/web developers that take a dim view of these types of system blaming poor security etc. Sureley the fact that these sites have any security at all is a bonus. I see so many sites installed that people have made up at home etc that have no security at all. Lets face it if a decent hacker wants to be into your site then you will need a very decent security system to keep them out.

The types of site I am thinking of are the likes of PHP NUKE, Platinum, Mamba, Xoops amongst others all of which i have used for some purpose in the past.

Just out of interest how many of you would consider using a CMS type website for your business and how many wouldn't give them a second look?

The reason alot are classed as insecure is down to their popularity, once a security hole is found it is then very easy for other sites using the same script to be found and hacked.

I prefer to code my own CMS systems but then I am a programmer. However certain CMS systems are very good and have their uses.

I would not mock them for the sake of it.

And surely somthing like Nuke has to be more secure than some dodgy bit of PHP code with poorly written SQL statements which are just waiting to be exposed?

My main reason for disliking PHP Nuke is that it is the template monster of the CMS world. By that I mean that you can spot nuke a mile off and they all look the same. Although I do like the fact that they are highly versatile thanks to their easy to install upgrades and add-ons but when I think of nuke I still think of internet gamer clans.

You see because I am not a programmer/coder but can find my way around these systems pretty easily, including having to manually adjust some of the php files when needed I find them ideal for me, and a much better option than using something like frontpage to build my sites. I definatley think they are a good option for people trying to establish an early online presence

I agree that the likes of Nuke are a gaming clans dream. I have used it on many occasions for gaming clans. Yes you can spot them a mile away. What about something like mambo though? templates are very easy to make for mambo and not all mambo sites look alike.

That is very true but it is a catch 22. While mambo is much more customisable to the point that it is not instantly recognisable as a mambo cms, it is unfortunately less impressive than nuke in its appearance. So it is really a toss up between appearance and originality.
