Unique Articles on site?

If you have say 20 unique articles are you better off posting them on your site or submitting them to top article directories? What gives you greater benefit from an SEO perspective?
 
Depends actually, Both have their difference purposes cant really compare..

If your website has all the the keywords you want to target covered through content its time to promote those keywords using external links.

First step is to make the right structure of the website and try and cover all the primary and secondary keywords using content on the site (thats what i prefer to do).

Again, these articles would do nothing till you have the right authority for your website.

My best bet is to have some articles on the site and then try and get those pages ranked and side by side keep on adding more content...

Fresh content also helps to increase the authority of your website..

For 20 articles, may be worth considering having the full article only on your website, but then spin shorter rewritten versions for third-party websites.

That way, you make your content work harder, though the benefits of article sites is quite contested.
