Hi everyone,

Would be so grateful for some info on this. Has anyone here been to a consumer base event?

Please can you kindly give us details of the good points and the bad points as a visitor and advantages/disadvantages of being an exhibitor?

Which type of events/exhibiton have you been to? We're particurly interested in family type of events/consumer type events.

We've noticed that some consumer type events are held in a ground of a hotel etc..in a large marquee? Is there more advantages of organising an event in a marquee as opposed to an indoor one (inside a hall etc? Is it cheaper than hiring the actuall hall of the premises?

When using a marquee, do the organiser have to pay the owner of the premises (perhaps less than hiring the actuall hall?)

Thank you in advance.

Hi Jen -

I have just been an exhibitor at a wedding fayre if that is any use to you! They did use a marquee and it was freezing apparently! I was in the main building though.

I am not 100% sure but I guess that they bridal fayre organisers probably don't pay the hotels because they are getting a whole stack of potential customers through their doors free of charge.

The worst thing for me as an exhibitor is if the company organising the event have not marketed it properly and the footfall is not good. It would stop me from ever exhibiting again.

Don't think I can be of any more help though I'm afraid as I have on ever exhibited.

Hi Jen

I've attended and exhibited at many a consumer event. Some points are:

good points as a visitor:
* receiving goody bags on entry
* great discounts offered by exhibitors
* discovering new products / companies etc
* diversity and interaction

bad points as a visitor:
* too many of the same offerings (e.g. a wedding fayre just attended by wedding dress makers!)
* poor layouts
* outdoor venues in winter!

advantages of being an exhibitor?
* raise awareness for your products / services
* opportunity to meet your customers face 2 face
* generate sales on the day through special offers

disadvantages of being an exhibitor?
* its a disadv when footfall figures / demographic dont match the oranisers promises

When exhibiting, always ensure you get footfall figures though for the last show the organiser held... always get a stand location in a high traffic area... always haggle over the site price - they need you remember!

hope this is of help

John
