Just been looking at my Analytics and looked at one of my keywords that performs quite well position 3 in Google it has 22200 exact Local (165000 Broad Local) searches per month but daily clicks at best is 17 per day

I compared this to another keyword that is also position 3 Google with 8100 exact searches and that keyword had at least double the clickthrough.

Is this a common thing, is the adwords tool wrong ? or is there somthing i can do to increase the clickthrough

Confused as i targeted that keyword because of the search term but as explained above that keyword is just not happening for me

from what i have read i should be getting more traffic for that keyword

  • Ranking #1 gets 42.1 % of clicks
  • Ranking #2 gets 11.9 % of clicks
  • Ranking #3 gets 8.5 % of clicks
  • Ranking #4 gets 6.1 % of clicks
  • Ranking #5 gets 4.9 % of clicks
  • Ranking #6 gets 4.1 % of clicks
  • Ranking #7 gets 3.4% of clicks
  • Ranking #8 gets 3.0 % of clicks
  • Ranking #9 gets 2.8 % of clicks
  • Ranking #10 gets 3.0 % of clicks

Hi does your software also show the click through rate for the 2 terms?
If you send me a pm with the 2 keywords I will run them through market samurai if you want.

Given that youre generally #3 for that phrase and get around 500 clickthroughs from it per month, that doesnt sound like too bad a rate.

As youre already #3, I would probably concentrate on pushing for #1 rather than trying to increasing my clickthrough rate from that position, as this would no doubt multiply your hits by around 5.

Every keyword is different and the relevancy of results 1 and 2 would also have an effect. If no1 is exactly what they want, why go to no3? As said, focus on getting to no1.

As for going for position 3 it was not m choice i was aiming for number 1 position but for some reason Google did not give it to me  i am to ask them again nicely soon though, they may change their mind

Thanks for the answers but I will try to explain again

My question was 2 keywords Both position 3 in Google one has 22200 Exact local searches one has 8100

the one with 8100 searches gives me twice as much CTR as the one with 22200 which to me seems odd.

What I'm saying is say the first two results are rubbish directory listings, then more people will click on result three. If results one and two are well known companies, totally relevant and the cheapest around then result three will not get the clicks. That could be the difference you have with the two keywords.
