Help with marketing with online site's

Hi All,

I'm currently working for a medium sized transport company. They have two online sites. **removed URL**
The company all ready has a monthly spend with Google but its limited to £££ per day. So some times we are near the top on search engines but once been clicked so many time we move off the top searches. Can the company been based in Tyne & Wear have a cost effective national search on Google. I think we are currently regional to Tyne & Wear. But the MD is looking to a cost effective national solution. Could you please forward your thoughts on how best we can move forward and increase new customers to the sites.

PS I have around 2 hours per day spare which could be used helping the site if anyone could forward information.

Only problem is we cover full nationwide from our depot. Do you mean main areas online customers buy from in UK. Most of our online retailers sell 70% in and around London area. But we have clients based all over UK. One client in the top 3 online furniture retailers is based in Norwich where online sales are very poor. So I cant see how that would help find decent size retailers to work on behalf.

We the transport company are based in Tyne & Wear. We work on behalf of online retailers based all over the UK. We are looking to expand with new clients and hopefully can use google to find national retailers. Hopefully they will search google etc and find our transport company near the top. But currently I think we are only getting regional hit through google, where we would like national coverage on search engine etc.

But just because we have main areas which are more popular for deliveries, that does not mean we would find new retail clients in these areas. As previously mentioned we have a huge client in Norwich in the top 3 furniture online retailers in the UK. Norwich as a area is not popular for sales. Unlike London areas which we have more deliveries 95% - 5% in Norwich so am I missing something ?

...there must be a relatively small number of potential clients; can you not spend your spare two hours per day searching out these prospects and delivering a personalised unbeatable USP?

Bear in mind however what you regard as prospective clients would likely have transport contracts already in place(!) or as in many industries work with preferred suppliers only?

Yes you are. and the word is Backloads. For expansion, it makes sense to chase business along the routes you are currently running, so that you don't have wagons running around the country empty.

The FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do is to work out the reason for living of your website. if you do not do this, in detail then you will struggle along the way

there is little point in picking up business in bristol if your wagons have to run empty to get there.

I know this industry VERY well ;)

Sounds to me like you're focussing solely on PPC. How about using that extra couple of hours free to time in improve your ranking in the Organic Search.
It costs alot less than a nationwide PPC Campaign. I'm guessing that your keywords are quite costly.

There are lots of things you could do to help.

The way I would move forward is to get the account running as cost effectively as possible. Making sure you are paying as little as possible for the top positions will alllow your budget to be spent more evenly through the day. I don't mean to offend, you might be top notch, but usually there are things you can do to lower the cost. All be it a bit mind boggling sometimes :)

You could possibly look at setting Ad Scheduling up, so your adverts only run say 7am to 5:30pm. (or the general working hours of the businesses you are trying to target) This will stop your adverts being clicked when it is less likely your services are required.

I too know this industry very well having 15 years knowledge in same day and multidrop deliveries.

If I wanted BACKLOADS I would use forums which is time consuming etc. Plus many other carriers would charge buttons to cover work, for me that’s not worth the effort of data input into these sites.

I have 15 years knowledge working with online retailers and have played a major part in helping online companies turn into multi million pound operations.

We do not require BACKLOADS as we all ready collect from retailers or manufacturers in every truck we run 90% of the time.

We are looking for potential new clients from the mid-high end market that require a professional delivery company.

These companies can be based any where in the World but they need to find our delivery company using the worldwide web.

Yes correct and not bringing in enough traffic.

If i new how to do this i would happily spend my time covering this area.

You seem happy to shoot from the hip so here goes.

YOU came here asking for help because the MD wants you to do more. WE are trying to help you for free, to do the job YOU get paid to do!

I have tried to help, you threw it back in my face, so I wish you well in your quest to find the information I could have provided, and was trying to provide before you threw the toys out of the pram, as you certainly will not now be getting it from myself.

Have you heard of the saying don't bite the hand that feeds you?

I appreciate peoples free advice and help, I would do the same if I had the time to spend on the forum.

I also do help a few people in PM etc.

As mentioned to OldWelshGuy in the PM he sent me its difficult some times to get the correct understanding on a email or text for example.

Some times I get my wires crossed been the recipient does not intend.

If you do have a good read you can see my view's on how the post could have read patronising to me.
Which to be fair OldWelshGuy has mentioned in a PM.

Both my self and OldWelshGuy have apologised to each other on the matter.

Water under the bridge for us both.

If anyone requires any help with warehousing/storage/distribution my advise is free.
If anyone wants to know how online furniture companies are doing my advise is free.
If anyone wants to know how online bed companies are doing my advise is free.
If anyone wants to know how online door companies are doing my advise is free.

Every thing else I will use UKBF as people are friendly and very helpful.

I rest my case.

OldWelshGuy we shall have a pint one day and ill buy it if I'm down your way on a business trip.

Good on you for that.
For what its worth my suggestion on your situation would be to buy a cleansed list of the decision makers in your target e-commerce retailers (or compile it yourself/staff member) and then do a targeted mail out with a well thought out story/usp's of your business etc and a landing page on your website (if appropriate) to measure click throughs. You could then also follow all these up with telemarketing.

Thanks for the advise.

I have emailed over 4,000 online retailers which I have compiled a data base all ready. From the email and calls I have made we have brought on board 30 new clients. Some of the new clients are in the top 5 internet furniture companies which will be good business for us.

Now the MD has asked me to STOP any further new business. Until we help the new clients bed in to our structure and setup.
