Hi

I've imported some exercise equipment from China that will arrive in about 7-10 days and cost about £1900, it weighs about 5500kg in total and is 3.5cbm. I just received an invoice from Cargo Movers International Ltd (CMI) for as follows:-

LCL Terminal Handling: £352
UK Documentation £90
UK Handling Charge £82.50
CISF £175
Total = £699.50

That's not even including Duty and VAT plus delivery to my door. So I'm probably looking at least an extra £500-£700 on top. So I could be looking at paying £1200-£1400 on goods that I only paid £1900 for in the first place. I done as much research as could on the type of goods I ordered and never came across any hidden charges so I'm a bit confused as to why its so high. I think I'm going lose money as selling it all :(

I've imported Mini Moto's before and never paid any extra fee's like this, I'm pretty sure its excessive. What do you guys think ?. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Charges have been fluctuating recently, but these do look a little high!

Assuming you have some documentation, you can choose your own agents and should not be stuck with these guys. Phone around.

The stuff arrives on the 19th. I have the Bill of Lading. I spoke to another company and they said if I transferred over to them charges would be basically the same ?. Do you have any companies you recommend ?.

Is the £175 CISF (Chinese shipping kickback) something I can avoid if I went the FOB route and chose my own shipper ?. Would I save on any of the others fee's in my first post ?.

Also when choosing FOB am I able to find out the complete cost including shipping to my door ?, so no unforeseen charge will appear ?.

Hi,
I think it's better you ask the supplier to quote you FOB China port next time, then you can choose the forwarder( freight company) in UK, you need to ask the forwarder quote you everything( from China port to your door) by documents, then you can caculate all the charges.
For this time, I think the best way to save the money is to discuss with CMI friendly. I am not so confident for this case. good luck!
