My Laptops doing my head in!

    I've recently bought a new laptop an Advent one with an external manual switch for the wireless connection but it only seems to come on when it wants too which is really annoying! Has anyone got any idea why this might be? Am i not letting the computer boot up enough etc! Please Help

    Hi,

    I also have an ADVENT laptop but the wireless is built in. I have to say though, it also has a mind of its own - the beauty of wireless technology!

    We had problems when we first bought this and a quik trip upto PC World where we bought it, sorted it out - they restored to factory settings. Perhaps this would work, but make sure you back up everything you need onto a memory stick or CD-R, becasue you could lose it all.

    You shouldnt have to do a fatory restore just to get the wireles working. Can you give a bit more info as to what happens, when its (the wireless) switched on (theres no real reason to turn the switch off) do you get any baloons or anything popping on mentioning lost connection or anything? what are you connecting to? it it a router or access point at home or office or is it a hotspot?

    Hi

    I have had experiences with wireless cards before. It could be the setup on Windows. I am assuming you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2.

    If you look in the control panel, then network connections, then right click your wireless connection and select properties.

    On the second tab called 'Wireless Networks' there is a tick box to let windows configure your wireless settings. try either enabling or disabling this as it can prove problematic depending on the software used by your laptop to administer the wireless card.
