Hi
we have been having loads of enquiries from european customers wanting to buy our goods.

we are thinking that we should launch our website in different european countries,

however Im a bit confused at what is best for search engines.

we would sell to
france, belgium, netherlands, germany, eire

therefore would it be better to buy that country name eg

.dl .ie .be .fr or would it be better to get an EU domain (which obviously would be heaps cheaper)

what would worl best in an european search engine

any advice

Thanks

I think ive just answered my own question

it seems that certain domains (eg .fr (france) you have to live in france to get it )

weird

Nah, you can buy any domains you want. If i was you i would register the .eu and .com name so no one can copy your .co.uk. just use the .co.uk version.

Or have a single .com, .eu, or even your .co.uk site with different language sections on the same site.

It's easier to promote and optimise a single site, then a company with multiple websites that all need promoting.

Some domains require residence in that country.

Not sure if that's true. The Netherlands, for instance, require a local address but my hosting provider simply registers the site using their local address, charging a small extra fee.
