Sending out Press Releases

Considering the news I have got I do not tend to do enough press releases. Do you guys know of mags i should be sending pr too, business ones im looking for, i have sne t loads to local papers and get nothing as they dont seem interested unless there is a personal touch to it, even though im a local business and have a great story behind it.

So I am lookingfor suggestions to which business mags should i send my press releases too.

Hi Michael,

There are hundreds of business magazines. I just ran a search on my media database to check. And that's before you get into all the business correspondents in regional and national newspapers too. Not to mention regional business magazines.

I think instead of saying; 'here is some news about us will you publish it?' this is what you should do...

You should establish a wish list of magazines your clients read. (why not ask them what they read) Then work out the stories that get coverage. Then construct (whoops - nearly said 'make up') similar stories about Ebony Bailey.

Do most of your clients read your local paper anyway? If they don't then you don't need to lose sleep about not getting coverage in them! If local papers are important to you - and they want a local angle - then give them a local angle!

As in (nearly) all businesses we cannot be experts at everything.

Where we do not have the knowledge we can usually find people to supply it however there are some skill sets that we obviously do not possess - mine is selling (or more specifically getting a foot in the door, I'm fine when I can get face to face with someone).

I would guess one of yours is PR.

In these cases we have to 'bite the bullet' and pay someone to do it for us who does posses the know how and skill sets required.
If we attempt to do it ourselves we invariably make a complete hash of it and waste our valuable time
