Dermot

Hi everybody,

Hope you can give me a little advice on setting up my own business. At the minute I do web design, help people with websites and pocket the cash, I also fix the odd computer and sell some stuff on ebay.

What i want is my own business name, then i can create a website offering my services and have any money i make go into a company account.

I am currently working as a web designer so this business venture is only part-time.

But where do I start? I really dont have a clue. How easy is it to get a business name and bank account? Is it expensive?

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Dermot

This is the intro section Jayne !

Dermot, I know it's not too difficult to set up a business account. And it shouldn't be too hard to get your own company name. You need to think of one first ! And then logos, slogans and that sort of thing!

Anyone can setup a company. If you want to go Limited, you would be best seeing an accountant. A business accountant requires next to nothing, providing you don't go with Natwest, and don't ask for a loan. If you require financial backing, you'll need to put together a business plan with details on what you want to achieve and how you will do it.

Hi Dermot,
I started my company 6 weeks ago. Setting up a business account is painless (unless you want funding too). make sure you ask them to give you the best deal with the account i.e. no charges for a set amount of time. I managed to get them to go from 6 months free to 12 months free just by asking nicely.

The hardest bit is coming up with a company name and identity. I suggest you get some friends to brainstorm with you.

Good luck in the new venture.
