advisable to forget seo & just market site offline?

I am worn out trying to learn seo!:eek:

Would it be a bad idea to just forget about seo and just focus on marketing my site through offline methods eg leaflting, ads in local newspapers etc.

But then i guess i am missing out on all the customers who search online for their services!!!!

I think i just need a rest for a good 24 hours!!

remind us, what is it you do and where do you do it?

for example

our website is purely there for people who have seen our brand to find us ..... basicly it`s a modern version of directory enquiries, they already know the name and the address.

you could try adwords, when people type your prefered keywords in they will get sponsord results adverts,

the keyword tree surgeon in coventry was searched about 200 times last month on google, it should be quite easy to rank on page 1 for that,

also instead of concentrating on google,

you could maybe concentrate on yahoo they get about 25% of all searches, its easier to get to page 1 position 1 on yahoo, you can get away with keyword over use.

Hey you think you have it tough! I'm currently attempting to add unique and interesting descriptions to 200 very similar water boilers :redface: 2000 other products to go too. :(

people dont google firms to do manual labour jobs - they see you via


side of your van

sign at the side of the road

advert in local free paper and good contacts in the council, local garden centre etc etc etc.



then all they do is search for the memorable name and thats always going to appear near the top.

how did you find that info? when i search 'tree surgeon in coventry' on google keyword tool it comes back with 'not enough data'

Really? Maybe I'm slightly more wary than most, but the last few tradesmen I've hired have all be via Google direct or indirect searches.

Preferably I work off of recommendations from friends or family, but failing that I either look at online reviews sites or reviews via Google local. I don't think I would ever just hire someone from advertising without some form of recommendations, verbal or online.

No, you said they would Google the name after seeing offline advertising, whereas I would Google something generic and read up on the reviews.

For example the last guy I hired was a central heating engineer. I Googled 'Central heating engineer+my location" found a reviews site and called a couple of good ones based on the reviews on there.

As I said I wouldn't just Google a company name unless someone I knew had recommeneded them to me directly.

Utter rubbish, my building firm had a turnover touching £500k, doing large scale domestic building work, all achieved via adwords.

People look for all kinds of things on Google, you gotta know what they are typing into the search box, how to appear top for that term, then get 'em to call you once they are on your site.

I think this shows just how many people business owners don't realise online market potential.

If people are looking for for a service or goods that you sell, but they do so online, why would you not fight tooth and nail for it in the same way you do offline?

If a specific search term is searched for 1000 times a month, then on average 42% would visit the website in position 1. 12% on average would go to the website in position 2 and it tails off from there.

That's a massive difference and I always look for relevant searched for terms I can rank 1st for. I do SEO for clients and do the same, if we don't rank them at least page 1 for a term then they don't pay, simple as that.

For a local business, you don't need thousands of searches a month, any extra custom is more revenue so if you're doing the SEO yourself, do your research correctly and implement your knowledge on and off page.
