Foundation Degree in Business Information Technology (Part Time)

Course Details

Aimed at developing computer skills for a business environment.

Skills covered include:
Business modelling
Project management
Database systems
E-commerce
Human Computer Interaction

I have been told I will be accepted on the above course, and I will get funding from my company. However I feel my supervisor is holding me back and wants me to go on clait courses, just to get some certificates. Personally I feel this is going back to sucking eggs. What real benefit would a clait course provide. I am a Band 4 IT Analyst, and have 16 years experience databases, excel, office environment. How do I relay kindly to my supervisor that while she may mean well, a clait isnt the way to go.

Clait is probably cheaper for them.

Too many variables really in this to comment.

That course you have posted does look good though but I cannot qualility of it, but to me it would look far better than CLAIT/

The course you (the OP) suggests looks good.

Could I also suggest you take a look at some of the Open University IT courses - last year I did 3 modules in web development and applications and found the courses great. They are also competively priced and distance learning (you do, though, get great support from students and tutors alike through dedicated forums) so you don't even need any time off work, although you will need to commit a few hours each day/week to your study.

The Open University courses are excellent and addictive: I have completed 20 over the past seven years including six of those web development and applications courses that I believe you are talking about. I have collected many nice 'pieces of paper' called 'certificates' and other such along the way. I, however simon4amiee, have no idea what a 'Band 4 IT Analyst' is but I assume it required some sort of formal tuition and issue of a 'certificate' of a higher quality that a CLAIT but lower than a Foundation degree, maybe, or was it a degree? - I am assuming 'Band 4 IT Analyst' covers roughly the same subject material as CLAIT and a Foundation Degree in Business IT, that is: 'how to use a computer to make your company money'. If they are asking you to complete the CLAIT courses before starting the Foundation degree then that should not be much trouble for you and will keep them happy. If CLAIT is instead of the Foundation degree then obviously there is some other reason such as cost and you don't need the CLAIT because you have a 'Band 4 IT Analyst' qualification. Unfortunately without 'certificates' and other such pieces of paper the changes of progress within a company is limited, so you are stuffed either way. PS. I don't know your age, but if you are 50 or over then you are wasting your time either way no matter how many certificates/degrees you have collected. PPS. I am older than 50 - do I sound bitter?

Cheers chaps, The course it part time 2 nights a week for 2 years 6-9pm, it isnt an open university course, but at my local college. The funding is approved (approx £3000) and I will be starting in september, who loves the NHS
