Hi folks,

I'm having a problem with a blog where, whenever I go into the post page, I get a 404.

So, I can see my posts within their category, that's fine. But when I click on the post header, the url is a 404.

Any ideas why this might happen?

Cheers,

Steve

probably either a .htaccess problem or the permalink set up has changed.
If your .htaccess file isn't writable, upload a new one
DON'T DO IT if you don't know what you are doing though.

Hi Steve,

The guys above are right - the link is broken. I am guessing it loads fine when you visit it from any of the other links on your site?

Sometimes installing SEO plugins which affect the link structure can mess up the links within your site. You could try disabling any interfering plugins before testing the link again.

Alternatively, if it's a post, there's a pretty easy solution. Copy and paste it into notepad, delete the offending post and re-create it with a new permalink. It will appear at the top / latest post but the link will work...

My personal prefered permalink structure for SEO is
/%category%/%postname%/

Another thing to mention - if the theme has not been coded right, the header link within your page will not work. If all else fails, try changing your theme and see what happens!

I asked my web host and he figured it out. Wordpress didn't like me having .php for my post page permalink structure.

Not that the permalink is just/%category%/%postname% it works fine.

Big "thank you" to Stu at www.equiphase.net. Not just great hosting, but service that goes well beyond the call of duty.

Highly recommended!
