Young peoples grants?

Hi,

I've been contacted by a few younger members on here. How old do you have to be to get a Prince of Wales grant or young persons grant. Also the best place they can go for advice etc.

Are there any businesses on here who gives advice on business start up for the younger business person, I don't want to give any wrong advice out.

perhaps Janye look to see if you can get a mentors grant or something?
And perhaps a percentage of the profits if some of these business's take off? lol

I don't want their money, it's just nice to see young people taking an interest in there future. If I can help, I will :D

But can all my little kiddos, please wait while next week, i'm on holiday, I only get one a year :D

Im a Business Mentor for the Prince's Trust. You have to be 18-30 to qualify and if it is for starting up in business then the age of 18 is likely to be the minimum age. There will be other criterions.

I have also received funds from the Prince's Trust. There is also Shell Livewire...I think..

yes come on now kids, myself and jayne will work on a structure for you. We habve identified a need and we wil all as a forum do our best to meet it :-)
In ther meantime it is xmas and these are all very hardworking people who need and desearve a rest.
first lesson in business, all work and no play, makes ppl dull :-)

Hi Jayne, remember they're only 13 and 14. They're legally supposed to remain in school until they're 16, aren't they. I know preparation is a good thing, but to incite over-enthusiasm at the expense of studies may just be a tad counter-productive.

As many of us have said before: let them 'serve their apprenticeship' by obtaining and performing a paper round or similar, and then, based upon that performance record, advance to the next step.

What I find wrong with the Prices Trust, is they put ages on everything, it should be open to everyone and the grants should be based on ideas etc. Doesn't seem fair really. The younger ones and older ones have very little help :D

FF makes a good point. Also the Prince's Trust have other activities that can assist young ones with confidence etc and they start at the age of 14. Activities include outdoor adventure etc

I've posted this here just for facts only, i'm smart enough to tell them to do there school work if they are under 16, this info is not for the under working age young ones, but the 16-18 age groups.

The bit in between that's missing, if you know what I mean.

I'm only trying to help them, not too bothered if I sound businessy or not at Christmas...they asked me and i'm on hols :lol:

As you may or may not know I work for the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) you mention that the bit in between is missing for a reason and Fast Fences is quite right. Although young entrepeneurship is encouraged 14-18 is a time for study and learning. These boys are lovely and should be given a chance to LEARN about business to enhance their futures in business. But at the moment the should be concentrating on their grades. At the age of 16 they can make the choice to continue their studies or to work at which point grants become available for them.

Princes Trust grant for busineses require you to be no older than 30. .You have to prove you have tried to get a loan to cover all your start up costs from at least two banks. I tried and gave up once I got all the novels to fill in You have to show them your business plan. Phone the local council to find out who does free businness startup courses and get a free one day business course.

I'm trying not to get involved with anything too much, trying to put my studies first! And why would Junior want grants? I'd advise him to stay well away from all this business stuff at our age. We're so naive and gullable, we could be led into anything that could affect our whole lives!
