Penalty for filing returns late

I am making up the accounts for a flat management company. I only received the paper work a couple of weeks ago and apart from waiting for some bank statements I am ready to go. I have just logged onto Companies house web site and noticed the following:

Accounting Reference Date: 31/10
Last Accounts Made Up To: 31/10/2008 (TOTAL EXEMPTION SMALL)
Next Accounts Due: 31/07/2010
Last Return Made Up To: 03/12/2008
Next Return Due: 31/12/2009 OVERDUE

Is the company liable to incur a fine because the return is overdue?

No it is only the annual return which is overdue and there are no late filing penalties for this (yet). You will get letters threatening to strike off the company though so it is best that the annual return is bought up to date as quickly as possible. It only costs £15 if you file online here https://ewf.companieshouse.gov.uk/.

You will need your company authorisation code (six digit code supplied by companies house, if you do not have one you can apply using the same link and this code will be posted to your registered office) and a credit card to pay

To note thought that the accounts to 31/10/09 are due with 9 months to prepare them.

Plenty of time but late filing penalties here are heavy so do not leave to the last minute.
