keyword stuffing ??

    I am getting a little confused as most people say that keyword stuffing will alert Google and they will blacklist the site.

    All my competitors........


    Thebannerpeople

    plasticbanners

    Digitalprintexpress

    1clickprint

    Are almost unreadable they have that many keywords in lines of text at the bottom of the page..

    Hope someone can help me on the path of enlightenment.

    This is a common practice on websites. What they are doing is creating content for the search engines "below the fold". Re "unreadable", it's not really meant to be read by their website visitors - it's just search engine food.

    Knowing the extent of keyword stuffing that you can get away with is the trick. Clearly these sites are still on the right side of being acceptable, but remember that inbound links are more important on on page content nowadays.

    You really do need to stop putting the specific names of other companies into your posts. It's rude and unprofessional. Just be generic in what you say....in fact simply saying your competitors is enough, you don't need to actually list them by name.

    We all have competitors and that is healthy and its perfectly possible to co-exist but the one thing that you do need to avoid wherever possible is to go making yourself enemies as that will just cause you unnecessary grief.

    My advice would be to use a little tact, it will get you much further generally speaking.

    I absolutely agree with Shaun keeping putting his competitors details on here! Really bad form IMO.

    I tend to focus on doing my business and cultivating my site to the best of our ability and resources. Too much focus on your competitors can lead you to make mistakes they have made that you have no knowledge about.

    every word of copy can have a use for ranking purposes.90% of sites suffer from having to little copy on there pages.:)

    Yep, I do. Stuffing a load of gibberish at the bottom of the page is only going to achieve a reduction in conversion rates.

    You would be far better of paying attention to the correct page hierarchy to ensure keywords are used naturally within the existing page structure - Title, heading, alt tags, copy text.

    This will score far higher than cramming keyword loaded text towards the bottom of the page.

    Many pages suffer from having a lack of text on the page, but the answer isn't to do a bodge job, it's far too amateurish.

    It depends what you mean by prolific.

    As I said, using keywords in certain places on the page is good, stuffing page text with them in the belief that they'll help with rankings or trying to fulfill some magical keyword density percentage is just misguided.

    I do agree it may be a little distasteful, I mean no harm to these company's as I understand most start in my field with other signs makers.

    In fact if it wasn't for other sign makers I wouldn't be able to do my job.

    The websites I listed were the 1st page results, all I was referring to was that I didn't understand the concept of the beast that is google.

    How when they say you can't do keyword spamming (using banner 20 times in a small line of text) are they getting away with it on the referred to websites.

    It also must be working as stated above they are all on the first page (Banner printing).

    It will be working and I have seem much spammier websites than these. They are using techniques that are quite common in SEO. The Banner People for example have two large "call to action" buttons labelled "option 1" and "option 2" above the fold (or above the keyword text). They are betting that if you are really interested in a banner you will click one of these.

    Also, there is enough above the fold to interest anyone looking for a banner. I would bet that they are converting and doing very well thank you.
