Mac my Day has given me invaluable advice (FOR FREE) regarding my website and how my web people have basically taken advantage of me, can't believe it, do they not know who they are dealing with for Gods sake!!!

On a serious note, Mac took the time out to speak to me personally to advise and he is such a lovely guy.

I'll just sit here now awaiting Nigel from Fast Fences cocky comment!

Nic

Hi Nic,

Your site looks great, what has he said is wrong with it?

I really enjoyed looking at the hunk on home page, not what I expected to see on a debt collectors site, is he for personal use

Most designers are 'lovely guys' only too pleased to help.

Interesting, perhaps you or mac can share publicly his pearls of wisdom. Would you be prepared to share how much the site cost and then that might put things into perspective as to whether it was a rip off or not.

Granted there are a couple of things to make it work better if FF and compliancy is only just off but these aren't major things.

Please please prey tell :)

Hi

Yes nothing to do with design. The design is great but seeing as the web guy has just rang me to tell me to shove my site up my arse I would go take another look before he disconnects it!

Nic

And why has your designer done this? Lets get the full story here...

Good afternoon

Please let me please introduce myself. I have been in business for more than 20 years, my clients range from sole traders to international bluechip companies. I am the director of several businesses including Klout Design. I am the designer and developer of http://www.admiralcollections.com

I am here to defend the slanderous comments that have been made public against my company.

So yes, let's get the full story.

Would have been more professional to approach this in an amicable manner but seeing it has been brought to the attention of a credible business community lets air this for all to see. Hopefully some of us can learn a valuable lesson in business.

MacMyDay as a professional website designer your comments are much appreciated.

I respect this forum and understand it is frequented by many educated business profesionals, please feel free to share your views.

So please, tell us how my company has taken advantage of you.

I await your response.

What was wrong with it Macmyday? I think you should say and let this chap defend himself.

I'm sure we would all like to know what the 'other things' were, which were in your opinion, so bad that you had to point out that they had been ripped off?

Nic

To be honest I would think that if you went straight back to your website designer and told them that they were ripping you off I'd expect them to provide that sort of retort.

I'm curious to know what the issues were. If they are valid points then I'm sure it can all be discussed here in a civilised way.

The accusations were public. Klout has the right to defend himself and get an explantion publicly I think.

I agree Richard i think this thread has taken a twist that should be kept out of this forum

Maybe Nic could paste the PM contents on here, Mac seems to have vanished! At least then we could all see what the fuss was about and it can all be cleared up.

If you are going to wash dirty linen in public, at least wash the other sock :D

Completely disagree.

It would have been better if the initial situation was dealt with in private, then there would be no need to openly discuss the situation.

However, as Nic and Mac decided to openly discuss being 'ripped off' by another company then it is only fair that the accused gets the chance to vindicate himself in public. Handling the situation in private is of no benefit to the accused. Mud sticks!

Mac has been given a green light by Klout design to freely state what the problem is. Therefore, I see no reason why Mac cannot say what is wrong with the site if the advice he has given is sound. If Mac stays quiet then it is because he is not sure of his facts.

Agree.

At the moment, no one smells of roses

Both Nic and Mac have vanished. Everyone is waiting to see what is supose to be wrong with the site?

Or was Mac just drumming for Trade, by PM-ing Nic? And there is nothing wrong with the site at all?

I'd just like to say full makes to kloutdesign for coming onto the forum. Whilst I have no intrest in the outcome of the dispute unless their are lessons to be learnt nice to see people standing by their work.

I thought it was a nice looking site BTW.

I'm afraid that I have to say that having unneccesarily made the situation public the two co conspirators should justify their comments or lose their credibility in this forum.

Just doing my job.

Was mainly about things non-design related

What was your job? Was you commisioned to check out the website or did you offer in the hope of drumming up business?

Oi, this thread is about how great I am

Neither this thread nor the forums is about how great an individual is but how we can help each other in the business community, this is not at the expense of putting down another business without justification.

I suppose the phrase put up or shut up comes to the fore.

You have been politely requested to explain so please do so in the same public manner that it was bought to our attention in the first place.

Credit to Klout.

He came to this forum to defend his work, and threw the gauntlet down. It is still there. And his silence shows dignity.
I repeat my earlier point that this should be kept off this forum. As we are here to help others and discuss business issues, then sure the outcome,of what may potentially become a legal situation, must be reported on. However, the process of getting to the result and any apologies that need to be made, needs to be done behind closed doors.
I for one do not log on to listen to arguments and accusations.

To Klout - I have found this forum very friendly and educational. I hope that you can become a very active member

Have to agree that Klout has handled the situation very well.

In Nic's defence, she's quite new here and has maybe posted before thinking? It is easy to get carried away and forget that thousands of people - and quite possibly the person you're talking about - might see your comments.

Sounds like a flippant comment (gossip I'd call it) has become more serious because the person/company spoken about has heard about it. We've all done it no doubt?

I think it should stay in the public eye now and when Nic and Mac return (give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they're working...) they should justify their comments. Perhaps Mac feels Nic was charged over the top?

Welcome to the forum Klout!! It's good here isn't it?!

ps. I'll have 50p each way on Klout please :D

Well the only thing i can think of is the site is based on a free template or something like that...

but even so...that shouldn't be a problem.. if you can't do it yourself you gotta pay...

am i close?

Yeah would be nice to end this.

I think they must be pm'ing each other mad working out what to say and do.

We are all adults here (well some are I think :) ) I'm sure that those involved can 'talk' this one out. Silence doesn't work in anyones favour.

They will have got emails informing that ppl have replied to this post.

I need to get some more popcorn :D

Actually, I have no problem talking about it at all, but Nic really has been working all day so doubt she'll reply until tomorrow. It had nothing to do with the website design, code etc but other stuff that over half the members on here could have told her.
If she wants to talk about them, so be it. If anyone wants to talk to me about it, feel free.

A professional would have answered the designers request to explain what was wrong with the site. Not avoided the question and buggered off again.

I'm still waiting to find out what all the fuss was about and know one seems to be talking.

There's a mans reputation at stake here.

I think Mac is being very professional, after all it appears Nic went to her designer to have a moan, very quickly before flying straight on here to tell us about it. I think Mac and Klout are just waiting for Nic to pop on with her opinion.

Waiting with baited breath.............

Don't see how you manage to get to that assumption as his quote was

Oi, this thread is about how great I am

and obviously revelled in the fact that he had shown someone up.

The unfortunate part is that the person then joined the forums and saw the post.

But know one has said what was wrong with the site yet.

If you are going to have a go at someones work, at lease back up your statement. I think it should be explained. If there is something wrong with the site, then fine.

How would you feel if you were in the designers shoes..it must have been upsetting for him, especially not knowing why.

20 years experience is a slap happy comment !!!!! Unless Klout began when its owner was 14! Unless he was lying about his age as well!

Claire,

You must be reading a different thread to the rest of us!

I use UKBF as a bit of fun, but I know that there are plenty of good people in here to call upon. I read through many postings (I don't comment on all of them) but I get a feel for people and I have a list of people that I would trust to undertake a job as I believe they are good at what they do.

Mac, unfortunately, will not be on that list because I see his actions today as being questionable / borderline unethical.

It is not very professional to slag off another company behind their back only to run and hide when challenged in public.

If he had come back on to defend himself then I would have more respect for the guy, but his silence speaks volumes to me.

Mac's had a bad day today, and it will haunt him.

Everything you do is judged. One slight misjudgment and suddenly things can take a turn for the worst and in an instant you can find yourself in a situation that is completely out of your control.

Reputations are hard to build but easily lost, and he needs to learn that people watch what we do all the time. Just look at the amount of viewings this posting had had. How many of them are potential clients for Mac?

Was Mac professional?

Let history decide...:)

Where are my comments that have once said that the company are rubbish or have done something unethical?

Edit: I'm 100% confident in the advice I gave Nic, but I've not been able to get hold of her to say anything about it. No matter what I say, someone will get damaged. Besides, I didn't start a thread saying 'This company is crap, don't ever look at them' but that's what it's changed into. It's like I publically said something to you all and suddenly it's an issue.

I'll gladly reply when Nic has turned up. As I said before, if any of you want to talk to me personally about it, you're welcome to PM or phone me, because the issue has been blown out of proportion so much that you're waiting for me to say how they stole thousands of pounds from her or something similar. Which is untrue, before I'm blamed for something else.

OK, I've been waiting to be shown otherwise, but my take is this:

Mac contacted Nic and unfairly slagged of various aspects of her site with a view to either getting himself some business or some kudos.

Nic had 100% faith in what she was told and thought she'd share with us all what a great guy Mac is and how useful he has been.

I'm sure Mac was not best pleased when he saw her post as he knows this is how it would end up.

Nic was misled
Klout was vindicated
Mac looks very bad.

Apologies if I am wrong, but this is the impression I am left with and I'm sure I'm not alone.
