Challenged

I was wondering if anyone has any facts/opinions on whether it is better to host my blog with the blogging firm - or on my own server.

I was lead to believe that to help with my own websites organic climb up the SE rankings it was better to host on my own server (which is what I have done)..

Does anyone have any thoughts on this - I use Wordpress by the way - Don't know if its relevant?

Cheers
Andy

Put it on your own website as suggest by Zealous.

You should blog bercause you want to and because you have something to say and not because you want to help your ranking. If all you do is blog about your business with lots of links to the non-blog part of the site both the search engines and your visitors will soon get weary and not bother to return.

I suggest you use WordPress as your blog host. It is one of the
most used and user-friendly blog hosting sites. It is easy to use.
But if you want to use othe blog hosting site, I also suggest Blogspot.
It also enables users to have a free hosting and the best thing there,
you may customize its template even if it your hosting is free...

Thanks - I do blog because i want to - My blog posts actually 'never' advertise my site or services but are generally things that i find interesting and want to share.... That wasn't my point (but can see why you thought it may be:)). I have just heard that blogging can - as a nice bi-product - help improve your website organic search engine ranking by I assume adding to the content of the site regularly?

Absolutely, but...

If you also want to do the best for your rankings at the same time the best way is in a sub folder yoursite.com/blog

Then all you have to do is work hard, read loads and offer great insightful content.

There are loads of wordpress plugins and related articles to help make the blog itself search engine friendly.

It does this very well. I'm a very infrequent blogger but by taking the time to write a bit of decent copy I get a good bit of traffic and some has converted into new busines so trebles all round.

I think it is always better to host on your own host as you have more control on it (can change, edit more things, etc) and i believe it is more useful to your website than the blog host.

For SEO reasons it definitely needs to be on your own server.

Of course a blog should be what interests you, but a good (business relevant) blog on your own business website server that is updated regularly and marketed can do wonders for your business traffic and in turn sales.
