Hi all

I have noticed the words " Business mentor " crop up now and again in this forum, I am relatively new in business and could maybe do with a business mentor how do I find a good one and what return would they expect.
Thanks.

Dave

It depends on the mentor. You can have a mentor who doesn't charge anything, you can use business link and so on for fairly little. You can pay between £250 and £1000 / day for a consultant. It all depends on what level of support you are looking for.

These forums are pretty good for advice

Finding a good mentor is difficult and I would recommend word of mouth or recomendations from a business contact.

Often your accountant can be the best mentor for business issues.

I have details of a very good business mentor, his charges vary, i am not sure exactly how much but if you think you might be interested please email me and i will give you more information, i think first of all you need to know how much you are willing to pay.

Thanks

I am a Business Mentor for the Prince's Trust - I also mentor other businesses but it depends on which industry you are in. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

I would recommend building up contacts within your own industry.

I have been very lucky with someone I consider my mentor, although she shrugs the title off. She is someone I met who started up the same sort of business around a year before me, and she has been very supportive and given me loads of good advice based on her own very real, very recent experience.

We are now at the stage where we swap help and advice and comments back and forth a couple of times a month...she regularly picks my brain as well now. We've only met once but really this has made all the difference to me.

I've been really lucky with Mentors, I've got some very good mentors now, all unpaid, that have just sort of happened with no plan. People I've met, at various places and struck up a good relationship with, etc.

The latest is Alan (aka Alpha) who is now my accountant - he has some very good knowlege and experience and he doesn't seem to mind me chewing his ear off fo ages on the phone.
