Ideas for company name

I am going to launch an online deli in the new year, I have the domain www.delicatessen.co.uk and the front page is online now in test mode.

I am struggling to come up with a name for the company and would appreciate your input :lol: I currently run a few online stores but this one is my 'baby'

the site has a feel of .it rather than .co.uk

Is that intentional, or is your target market the 'latte set?'

Perhaps if Vitus Urbana had its English translation beneath, it would help local identity.

Vitus Urbana is the working title and won't be staying :lol: I am looking for a good old fashioned English name (I think)

You site looks like a trendy coffee house, don't think an old English name would sound right.

Why not just call it Franco's ... sounds trendy

Franco's sounds good. To be more Mediterranean, you could be Franqueaux, although that reads a little clumsy. I'd stay away from 'Deli Belly' though.

Don't forget to check out the name to make sure it doesn't infringe any previously registered registered trade mark - a basic precaution that people often neglect.

I always think that *less* literal names are a better bet - it gives you something to hang your brand on. "Amazon.com" sells a lot more books than B&N's "Books.com". In the early years of the web lots of people snapped up literal URLs (cars.co.uk, homes.com etc.) but these days hardly any of them are used. That's because the big branding agencies know that abstract names work better. Expedia are huge, but who would think from their name that they operate in the travel industry? It's the brand that hangs off the name that's more important.

That said, I think, something Italian or Italianate might be a good idea. You could just use Vitus Urbana, though whatever the modern Italian is might be better - or anything else vaguely Italian. But it would need to be easy for a Brit to spell... I'll have a think about this.
