Going it alone without back up

I have got to the stage now where I need to leave my day job very soon. I have been running a business part time for a while and would go full time with that but the problem comes with will I be able to pay the bills every month? Also have a baby on the way due in April so I have to provide for the baby to.

I guess this is something everyone goes through at this time but how did you all get round this problem?

I've not had this problem..but, have you thought of being a house husband, then your partner could get a job, until your business picks up. You can then look after your baby instead of her!

Check before you leave your job, that you are not entitled to paternity money/leave...also look into family credit!

There is never a good time to go at it alone, my advice is the sooner the better. I would however get as many systems in place as possible so it allows you to do the work with little interruption as possible. You can do this be using an out sourced PA such as www.alldaypa.com they are 24/7 and are based in the UK.

I worked in an office job when I was setting up my company. I applied to work part-time knowing I would probably never leave the job completely. Luckily, I say that now, my manager found I was running a business from work and it was classed as gross misconduct so I had to leave.

I now run MK Printing as well as a music and PA business and I have been doing for the last few months. It has been hard but it has been worth it. before I used to hate going to bed because I knew the next day I would have to get up and go back to work, now I really enjoy my life and everything about it is better.

i agree, you should do it sooner rather than later.

it is bound to be stressful at the start particularly when you have family commitments.

my only advice is to make sure there is a good market for your product or service and if possible try to line up a couple of clients before you leave your current job. picking up 1 or 2 clients is not going to equate to the income you receive now but at least you know you can put some food on the table (even if it is less food than normal) :D

obviously it does depend on your product or service. picking up 2 clients if you are just a retailler of Tic-Tacs isnt going to help but i think you get my point

I would say you need to do as much as possible now whilst also holding down your job to the last minute. When setting up every minute is precious because your losing money.

If you can run the new business as full time as possible you will then have some money to keep you going longer when you leave your job
