hi, simon light here, im 41 and run moles fabrications in spondon derby, my hobbies are, sorry hobby is motorbike grasstrack racing, ive been in business for a couple of years and finding it rather hard at present, we do general metal fabrication and steel work although we mainly specialise in manufacturing skips for the waste management sector, which is as we all know ever increasing, ive joined this site hoping to get some feedback as to where i can secure some much needed finance as all the banks seem rather reluctant to give me any help, old addage not long enough in business. hope some one here might be able to shed some light on some contacts, better stop waffeling now, thanks for reading my intro, yours simon light

In order of cheapness it goes:

grants
family, friends, fools
Suppliers, customers
bank overdraft, bank loan (don't just ask you existing bank, talk to them all)
Personal Investors

Go to your local Business Link and ask for help.

Hi Simon and welcome. I know your neck of the woods very well I used to live in Borrowash. I now live in a dfferent country although some might say you don't have to go far out of Derby to say that! I used to know a Simon from Spondon, a keen guitaist but can't remember his surname!

Hi Simon,

HAve you tried the Small firms loan guareentee. It's supposed to be for companies who have been trading but can't get funding from the usual sources...might be worth a thought. Also if the banks are saying no - why are they saying no...is it just your company or is it your industry as a whole - how about thinking about diversifying a bit?

I used small firms loan guarantee scheme to borrow 25k for a business that had only been running a year at the time.

Ask your bank about it. Ours never mentioned it as an option until we brought it up ourselves. I don't think they like the amount of paperwork they have to do.

BAsically, if the bank would lend you the money if you had security for it, then you can get it under SFLGS with no secuirty.

This was with HSBC.

Hiya mate.

An excellent, legislation driven, sector to be in. I'm currently in the process of floating a company in your sector on the NASDAQ - which is no longer exclusively high-tech. If you can get beyond infancy and grow the business, I'm sure you'll have a lucrative future.

Regarding loans, the Bank which tends to be less risk averse than most the Royal Bank of Scotland. You might want to phone several different branches because they do give a high degree of autonomy to their different branches. And these branches have targets they need to hit!
