    Hey all
    my name is andrew, and i am currently doing a business degree in leicester we have to think of a venture and then go through the process of starting the business. .i.e. elevator pitch (presentation) business plan e.t.c. i am currently stuck on generating realistic ideas which i could start-up.


    currently i have came up with variations of:

    *plumbing/heating companies
    *student accommodation cleaning service
    *exotic holidays organiser

    which one of them sounds the most plausible/easiest. u cud also help by providing ideas which could be in your supply chain/ or other very small scale stuff,

    Can I suggest an alt enterpise. Have you thought about a handyman service. Too many people are now cash rich and time shy and are happy to pay a trustworthy organisation to fix nusance things. You can start by being the handyman or by being a manager of handyman teams.

    1st 30mins = £30-40 and 25-30 thereafter. key to success is trustworthy labour. In London area one of the best sources is Kiwi's doing their tour. will be around fro a couple of years, speak good english , enthusiastic, and skilled. pay them say 15-20kpa. They like flexible hours so you could expect some unsocial hours in return.

    Worth a think?

    Investment = motor bike transport and some tools should be plenty of work within 15 radius.

    Surely if this is part of your degree, the lecturers aren't looking for the most realistic business idea, but how your business will make moeny - hence the business plan. Lots of people have seemingly ridiculous business ideas and make them work due to what they forecast in their plans.

    I am almost positive that you could have the most unplausible idea and still get high marks for showing in your plan that you could make this work.

    A great idea is to start with something you enjoy - do you have any hobbies? Can you think of a business around your hobby?

    As long as you do your research and stick to your guidelines, you cant go wrong

    It doesn't matter what they ask you, as long as you can back up your answers. Make sure that you forecast for at least the next 3 years and explain how you will acheive this. For example, maybe you will be aiming to sell 'X' in 12 months and increase by 50% each year. How will this be done? Will you need to take on staff? Will they be full or part time? Can the business afford this?

    Make sure you have every avenue covered so that you can answer any and all questions. Also, make sure you have a backup plan, if your forecasts don't work out as planned (i.e. in month 3 you don't sell as many as planned) how will you cover costs etc

    During my degree, I found it better to use the marking guidelines, (and always use the very top mark guidelines) and answer those in relation to the subject/question. They give you the guidelines because that is what they want you to do so use them, applying your business plan objectives to it.

    As Lucy points out, selecting the right business is a large part of your assignment. You must uncover a need, define a solution that can be profitable, and define a strategy for getting the business off the ground.

    Can you show that one of your ideas meets a need? Can you offer a solution that will be profitable and can beat the competition? If so, what is your strategy for reaching customers, what is your value proposition to them, and how will you implement your strategy?

    Once those fundamentals are in place, you must build a plan in meticulous detail that addresses all aspects of the business (particularly financial) and considers positive and negative scenarios.

    Hopefully, you'll become so captivated with your idea that you'll actually run with it. That is how Federal Express was started - even though the student concerned earned only a 'C'.
