I'm thinking about contacting some small local newspapers to see if they're interested in working with my website. It will offer value to their readership, and it's something their might already been interested in.

Basically I'm asking do you think newspapers will run with something that benefits their readers for free, or do you think they will want payment for the advertising?

The obvious answer is "get on the phone and find out", but I'd like a bit of advice first because I've never done anything like this before.

Thanks

I havn't tried this too, but as you have said the best way to find out is to talk to those local newspapers to give you a better understanding if this kind of strategy will work or not. They are the best person to talk with since you will be dealing with them, they might give you insights on what they want and need that could help you develop new ideas on how to best cater these needs.

Hi

Each newspaper is different in my experience!

Some will be happy to place some editorial for you provided it is not seen as overtly "salesy" or to run some sort of reader offer... A lot depends on how much news they have to run with that week!!

I think you will have to ring them and find out to be honest, sorry!

Good luck :)

Do you offer LOCAL vouchers? Looking at your website they are appear to be the 'standard' national vouchers that are available on many other websites.

If they above is true, to be honest, I can't see the local editors getting to excited about it.

If however you can offer some exciting LOCAL offers you are far more likely to get some interest.

As an example here is one of our pages for a new Restaurant in Horsham that is opening next week. As you can see we are carrying a voucher which is also available in printed form in the local newspaper who we are in partnership with.

Just in case anyone reads this and wonders where the voucher went:

I have just taken it off as it has been a great success and the restaurant is already heavily booked for the first week and all the offers have been allocated.

Hi,

Are you offering something similar to a "reader offer"?

I could be.

I've seen local radio websites run with something similar so I can't see why not - but I agree local vouchers would be great.
