We have a private forum here http://www.accountingweb.co.uk/og on which we can discuss all forms of accounting and practice issues.

I would encourage as many members as possible to sign up (I know you have to sign up for accountingweb as well but you don't have to participate on the general forum if you do not wish to).

The criteria for membership at the moment is you must be a qualified accountant (sorry but no book keepers at the moment) or tax advisor and you must contribute to UKBF.

The only way to get access is for me to authorise you so if you join accountingweb with some obscure name you will have to let me know on here via PM. (I'm not letting in just anyone you know:D)

Can we just limit it to accountants then and not Sift / others?

We have Elaine.

I allowed Gina on as she helps with admin however currently we have requests from around 5 other sift members that have been denied:)

We also had a request from one who when I asked what his UKBF username was, came on here and joined up before telling me:rolleyes:...................Not going to happen:D

Yep, come on everyone, we were all talking about a private accountant's forum. It was getting going quite well but it's gotten a little quiet of late......

Jenny is that really you who is standing on your head?

Alpha - could you explain briefly what this forum is about please? i.e. is it geared towards outsourcing work/finding specialists, or more towards networking/socialising?

Jenni384, if you could reproduce that aerial manouvre @ the next planned get together, when arranged, for UKBF South East forum members, then the hard core turnouts so far could be increased 10 fold - I always err on understating, it avoids disappointment :p
I'm sure Duane could make the short trip back in a roundabout way from Brighton & Poof (sorry Hove) to be the MC, and introduce you as "The Amazing Spinning Jenny" :D
................ Of course, the journey from Wilts is quite an ask, so quite understandable if it's not logistically possible for her. On the other hand we could provide some incentive for Jenni, by inviting Simon Cowell as a guest celebrity and judge? ;)

and before anyone accuses me of not attending any of the meets to date, which happens to be a correct statistic, due to cricket matches and holidays abroad clashing with previous gatherings ......... I shall make every effort to break my duck by attending the next one. :)

James it is geared towards networking, and discussions regarding practice issues.

It is being run on behalf of the membership and will be kept on a very friendly level so any antagonism will simply not be tolerated:)

I hope that during this new year we will be able to make better use of this forum.

We have had many applications for membership on accountingweb but most are from peple I do not recognize at all.

Could I just say that if you wish to join the private forum on Aweb with a username that you do not use here please notify me via PM (either on Aweb or UKBF)......unfortunately I'm not psychic and we will only allow members from UKBF that fulfill the following criteria

The criteria for membership at the moment is you must be a qualified accountant (sorry but no book keepers at the moment) or tax advisor and you must contribute to UKBF.

MAAT MiP does indeed count, but I'd guess you'll need to contribute a bit here first :)

Welcome to the forum (we're a bit mad, but nice with it)!

Out on interest, do most of the accountants on here work in practice or in industry?

I work for a company that produces software for accountants so not direct accountancy work but I still have all the fun of deciphering Finance Acts!

How if I am an accountant already but my license will expire this month. Whereas I can just only renew my license after a month. But I really want to join in that web. Can this be possible?

what licence?

God, wouldn't that be fantastic is we did get licences & badges.?

"It's okay folks, I'm an accountant"

"let me through, I'm on my way to an audit" while running red lights

We do get the short straw in terms of perks don't we? It's not like we get any fun toys to play with, just boring old caculators.

words that will never come out of my mouth!!!:D:D

Some would always be on a provisional and then others would have it taken away when they get too old :)

But we do get a place in a bunker if Krazy Kim in North Korea decides to send nukes our way. Last I heard, accountants are one of the 'special' types that need to be saved

Because we will be so useful in rebuilding civilisation?

Right, you scientists get cracking on cleaning the air, water & bringing the sun back, the engineers & builders can start on some shelter for us and the farmers can start seeing what mutant crops you can grow.

Oh, and I suppose the accountants should start working out if the scientists, engineers & farmers would be better to work via their own linited companies...

We are allowed to go through red lights aren't we?

I bought a doctors green flashing light on ebay, and have a sticker on the back of my car reading "Accountant on Call".

I'd like a badge though.
