AVG or Norton anti-virus?

    I'd always say AVG over Norton, I've been using it for years.

    In fairness, Norton 360 is better than Norton of old, but I still prefer AVG for ease of use, ease of updates, and not utterly killing the computer while doing a virus scan.

    AVG for me too.

    Not going to get into a slanging match between the two but AVG seems to pick up more bogies than Norton.

    Only thing i can mention about AVG is it slows down the puter a bit when its scanning.

    Workaround is to set it to scan when your in bed :)

    Neither. I used to use AVG and got a virus. I went out and bought Norton which found viruses that AVG didn't find. After a year of using Norton, you will find that your PC will start slowing down. Mine did until it was so bad that I moved again.
    Have been using Kaspersky for a few years now and I have to say that I won't be moving anywhere else as it is really good. haven't had a problem with anything virus related in years now.

    Have to agree with eventdomain.

    Forgot about Trend Micro.

    Housecall online scan is about as good as it gets for an online scanner.

    Never used any of there other tools but i suppose they are as good too.

    I agree. I would not touch Norton with a bargepole. I won't go into detail but last time I used it it actually broke my computer. When I contacted them I could not get any useful support.

    I ended up buying a new PC to cut my losses I have been using Kaspersky ever since without a single problem.

    One of the best ways of speeding up slow PCs is to remove stuff like Norton and replace it with AVG. I've had a good experience with Avast recently. It fixed a PC that I couldn't fix with AVG and seems to be reasonably low-impact.

    IMO Norton is so destructive and hard to remove that it should count as a virus in its own right.

    AVG for me. It's free for a start, and I have found reliable and trustworthy though a bit annoying on Vista as almost every update requires a restart.

    Whether it slows you down depends on your hardware - my older Dell PC is unusable whilst it's running, but my new Sony laptop is seamless.

    I have used the free version of avg, the company i used to work for used it on about 50-60 machines it worked fine all them years back, i use AVG at home on three machines and upgraded my parents to this as well from 360 they had issues with there VOIP phone with 360, it works absolutely fine now. Dont like Norton, i think when you price comparison AVG comes out on tops. And i have read reviews AVG stands up pretty good get the security suit.
