leadership book recommendations

I'm a manager of a small business and am interested in picking up some new books on the topic of leadership in a business environment. Would anyone care to give some recommendations? Thank you!

Hi Lauren

I have read a couple of books by Julian Richer that I have found to be partiicularly good most recently " Richer on Leadership" but this uses a lot of content from "The Richer way" which I felt was a far better book.

Funny, last week I had a conversation with a guy who used to do "mysery shopping" for Richer Sounds.

The Richer Way is excellent. And, if I remember correctly, all the proceeds go to charity. So,worth checking out for 2 reasons.

I would reccomend The Minute Manager series if you want to know more about situational leadership. Also try John Kotters Leading Change, that is really good if you are planning a major change in your organisation as it examines why change fails and how to make the cultural change stick.

In reading the synopsis, The Richer Way does seem like a potentially helpful book for me. I will certainly check it out sometime soon. SmallBiz, what do you feel you got out of The Minute Manager if you could choose a couple major points.

In my case, it was three or four simple principles. They are easy to remember and to apply.

Helped me to identify where in the development cycle each individual was and then manage them accordingly rather than a one size fits all approach.

Do you feel that it had a Christian sort of way about it? I've found that to be the case in several of the leadership type of books. Just wondering, doesn't matter to me for better or for worse.

Lauren I have a large library of business, books most are almost perfect condition which I'm selling off, I will have a list later this week if you are interested.

"I'll Show them who's boss" by Gerry Robinson is an excellent read.

I've got 7 middle managers and I've bought them all a copy each. We're reading one chapeter at a time and discussing it at every monthly meeting. It's proving excellent.

Steve, I will surely check out that one next time I'm in the store. Have you heard of or read Corporate Canaries. I've really come to like that book a lot and have been recommending it to all of my colleagues. It's an easy read, not too long and certainly intriguing.
