Interestiing SEO/PPC Article in Guardian

This is an interesting line in the article:

Google's search team had alerted the AdWords team to the fact that Foundem was a poor quality website.

Google always claim that search and Adwords are completely different businesses and they do not work together!

Of course the article may be wrong in what it says and just assumed they talk or Google could have been telling porkies all this time.

As for me, I never believed that the two arms of Google didn't talk. It would be madness for them not to.

Thanks for posting the link Steve.

well yes of course they talk, but they maintain that adwords has no effect on organic rankings,

Adwords must make sure that a site is giving relevant results or it would degrade there whole system.

Even the best PPC expert can not overcome a crap site.

A very interesting piece.

Recently I have become slightly frustrated with some of the search results I've been getting in Google. With it interfering or changing the results I get back from what I typed in, even if in quotes.

If you visit the site the onsite SEO isn't te best and it is actually a pretty dull site to look at...what do people expect??:D

Still, an interesting article thanks Steve.

I agree Emma, I had a loiok around and wasn't impressed. It sounds more like sour grapes than a problem Google.

In fairness Mike they ahve never said that, i have never been told that, in fact the complete opposite. I have had it direct from the horses mouth that the search quality can affect your Adwords quality score (manually), but not the other way around :)

To be fair, you are probably right. I'm sure if I dig through past articles & emails that I could find that claim but I bet when I do it will not be as conclusive as I remember it :)

Either way I never believed it, who ever said it.

A personal viewpoint on this is that if Google gave me an option to omit all directories, price comparison sites, etc, when searching, I would have that box ticked most of the time.
