The population figures are very mess leading. Manchester for example is a huge city, the city centre is the most built up city centre in the UK after London, it makes places like Edinburgh and Liverpool seem tiny.
For some reason London is counted as Greater London but Manchester never is, which I think is wrong. If London's population is 7-8 million then Manchester's is 2.6.
When I am in Stockport for example I am still in Manchester, the buses, police, fire service, the phone numbers are all Manchester.
Manchester is a metropolitan city like London, I wish the people that make these statistics would get that point.
