Do you print photos at home?

Hi folks,

Just wanted to know with all these new photo printers coming out, if anyody actually prints photos from digitals cameras out using their inkjet / laser printer?

If you do, please tell us howmany you print a year / how you choose what to print/ do you put it on a CD instead.

If you don't print photos please tell us why, or if it is something you have considered.

Any other comments regarding this are very welcome.

I just keep them in my PC and eventually I hope to get around to making albums or putting the better ones in frames.

We don't. Bonus Print have a really excellent print service. We ordered on the Sat and they came Monday. Plus they can print really large images, make them into mugs, jigsaws etd etc.

I don't think you can get the same quality with a home printer and it's really expensive.

You could prove me wrong though.

I'm not out to prove anything really. Its just that alot of printers have come out specifically for printing photos, and I just wondered if ppl actually do.

Hi all
i have dabbled in photgraphy, and editing my own piccies for a while.

I ws given the epson stylus R300 for my b day, it does smashing photo quality prints.
Friends of mine cannot ell the difference.
Personally i think the age where photos are developed at home is rapidly on its way.

I print photos for my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, neither of whom are at all techy. I also print photos for hubby and I to carry with us- e.g. photos of our son. I email photos to family members who are techy.

I have a stack of CD's full of photos and a clogged folder on my pc where we never get around to printing them!

One day... when that quieter day comes...

Yes i am the same matrixx

We take the piccies, we upload them from our camera and then primarily forget them.

I try to upload some of the better ones onto yahoo so family can view them after a visit.

The fact is i think if we printed out every piccie we ever took and placed it in an album we would have room for nothing else

Access differs from the likes of HP beacuse the plastic box which contains the technology is re-used where appropriate rather than melted down! This significantly reduces volumes into UK landfill.

Not really to be honest. Its just that there new printers coming out and stuff that are specifically for printing photos and I read an article that said HP brought out a photo printer on which they probably were making a loss on (and make the profits on consumables). But the article said that they would have to get people to print photos off in the first place.

So I was just interested to see who / many actually did. I personally burn my photos to CD!

Sometimes but I really need to configure my settings better between screen and printer.

I use mypixmania as with four kids I tend to print off hundreds of photos, great price but not the best quality. Ok though. Have used pixdiscount too in the past but wasn't as happy with them as some photos turned up within a couple of days and others took weeks.

I use a canon smartbase mp730 Photo printer btw and it's pretty good for a midpriced printer. Had it a year now so it's probably outdated!

I thought it was common knowledge that this was the case with all printers on the market today, "Sell us high quality printers at a bargain price, then rip us off with the cost of consumables.

Laser printers are going down the same route now, I purchased a cracking coulor laser printer with duplex printing built in, for only £250, but it cost around £400 for replacement toners.

I have an Epson R800 which prints very good quality but only realy use it for low volume printing because it is too expensive to use for big runs. I normaly use bonusprint for most of mine. They are fast, cheap and the prints are of a high quality.

I never print - just keep them on the PC. We don't even use normal films anymore.

Thought of that,

but then I came across a website which sells bottled toner to refill your laser cartridges at 1/3rd of the price. Haven't tried them yet but the quality is aparently every bit as good as a new cartridge.

If your printer is less than 12 months old I would check your warranty - using that type of product may invalidate your warranty.
