Soft Phone for a PC

Hi all

We are looking to use the PC's for making the calls and the system must plug into a normal phone line and not a phone switch. So do you have a solution and if so where to we plug the headset into?

is this some kind of VoIP thing you are planning?

They normally plug in via the USB socket of the computer.

There are VoIP single line terminal adapters available for small office home office user in mind.

This sounds great,

But one thing that puzzles me?

Why should people pay for something that they can get for free just by plugging a microphone and speakers into a pc, then having a video confernce with someone online anyway? What does VoIP offer that this doesn't?

VoIP offers the ability to phone normal landline phones and also the ability for "normal" landlines to phone you - something which you cannot do via VC etc

Skype - one of the leaders in VoIP offers several services to private & business users, including the ability to have several different "national" phone numbers... So you can have a USA number for USA customers, a French number for customers in France etc etc etc...

Now if someone could provide intelligent call routing with voIP (follow me etc) then that would be interesting :wink:

Hi Dave,

As per the previous responses I'm not too clear exactly what you are trying to do. Normally if you were making calls via your computer then the calls would be made & received over the Internet rather than a normal telephone line.

Skype is great for individuals or there are other Internet based telephony systems (such as ours

) which are more aimed at businesses (e.g. have integrated switchboards, voicemail, call forwarding, follow me services etc.)

The other benefit is that you aren't necessarily tied down to making & receiving calls via the computer - you can adapt an existing phone or use a dedictaed Internet telephony handset.

Sory Not interested in Skype

I simply need a software program that will enable us to use the pc as a phone and if we do this where do we plug the head set into?

The headset would normally have a usb thing on it to plug in, or is it just a jack it will then be a socket in your soundcard for plugging it in. Refer to the manual for where.
