Embroidery Design and Workwear

Hi everyone,

I am hoping that you can all help me out. I am currently expanding my business to incorporate embroidered workwear, customised items etc. I am also investigating licensed products.

I just wanted to hear your experiences with this type of business, what sort of product do you buy etc. Do you require these services but have run into problems with other companies? How would you like to hear about this type of service? Cold call, yell.com, newspaper.

Any thoughts welcome.

Are you producing the embroidered items yourself, or outsourcing them? We have found that when we outsourced them it wasn't cost effective, and we were limited to only being able to offer large quantities, when some of the smaller customers only wanted 5 or 6. The figures only work if you are supllying the garments and embroidering them yourselves.

Hi ginantonic,

I am producing them all in house, the whole process. I have my suppliers setup for it all already. I already produce embroidered products, so I have been setup to make the jump. Since posting this thread I have already taken on orders quite a few of them are small runs.

Are you in the embroidery business also?

My son's business supplies embroidered/printed workwear as well mainly being a vinyl signwriting company. I help him out occasionally, and deal with the clothing orders. He has to outsource all the clothing at the moment, mainly using 2 online companies who give him a reasonable discount. He provides all the artwork, logos, etc, so at least we avoid set up costs! Hi Terry.

I am in Ballyclare. I have used a local supplier (a member of this forum) and found him very useful in that he can take my already purchased items and put my design embroidery onto them. He is local enough for me to deliver and then pick up.

These are very, very small runs - onto semi-formal shirts, T-shirts, polo shirts, towels, etc.. I decide the product onto which he will put the logo.

And fast turnaround too.

Thanks for the feedback, I think that the things you have listed are quite important in terms of dealing with clients, and this is definately a business that is built on reputation, based on what you say about this member they are hitting the mark when it comes to fulfilling the needs of his clients, which is great advice to anyone!
