EKM Completely down - does anyone have any news?

    EKM went down at 2.40am, I notified them at 3.30am that the site was down.

    There is a telephone message saying that they are aware of technical problems and to check their website for further details - which is of course down as well!!

    Does anyone at all have any information? Not only can we not take orders, we have no way of accessing all our orders either so we are all sat here literally twiddling our thumbs and fielding phone calls from customers wanting to know why they can't order.

    I'm furious there is no way of contacting ekm, their own forums are down, their websites are down and quite frankly their telephone message sucks when they know that nobody can access their sites.

    Thanks it is back up now. Just annoying that their telephone message system said check the website for further details when their website was down.

    Well done to them though for getting it back without us losing the whole day.

    I will correct myself. I am not saying anything other than too many accounts on a server will make the sites run slow at peak times. If they say they had a power cut then that's what's probably happened. I will also say low cost means more accounts on a server which will impact a sites performance.
    When I say I've heard it all before, I have. Powercut or not, servers don't perform well when they have too many accounts on them and will go down too often.

    Totally agree with you there, many hosting companies will litterly stick thousands of customers on just one or two servers and you can have performance issues.

    You want to make sure that your on high performance servers with low populations.

    We ensure all our servers run at no more than 80% capacity at any time and use only the highest quality equipment.

    A good idea is to check out the size of the company your dealing with, check their turnover (to ensure they arn't a bedroom operation with a few 3rd party servers) and ask for details about their server equipment.

    Couldn't agree more. We've been doing this for a long time with our own servers: server overload has never been an issue. Nor will it ever be due to our rigorous monitoring.

    Powering over 5000 live online shops with little or no downtime is something we are proud of.

    I suppose the fact that we had a power cut highlights how rare such events are, and that server overload was nothing to do with it.

    We are also taking measures to prevent power cuts affecting our servers in future.

    So we look forward to even higher rates of reliability as ekmPowershop continues to grow as the UK's biggest ecommerce provider.

    I completely disagree with you. We have been with ekm for over 2 years and this is possibly only the second outage we have had.

    I asked on here as their own forum was down and we couldn't make contact through their phones.

    This is NOT an EKM bashing thread at all. We were all back on line before 10am. Not many people will be working through the night like I was and so for the vast majority of users they had less than an hour outage.

    I think EKM have a fantastic business. Doesn't sound like you are too happy though.

    If I wasn't happy with them I wouldn't have been with them for more than two years! I started with them as a temporary measure whilst my bespoke website was being completed and was so pleased with them I not only kept that site but opened two more.

    I am sure Antony will be true to his word and make sure that should this happen again then they will make sure that their telephone message will give server updates or whatever other solution they come up with.
