Microsoft Server 2003 - User Client Access Licenses x 20

Hi all,
Via a company in administration I recently acquired 20x User Client Access Licenses for Microsoft Server 2003.

I was lead to believe that they had not but used.
I have spent an hour on the phone to Microsoft who played pass the parcel with my call before accidentally cutting me off. Thanks.

Is their an easy way to find out if the Licenses has been used yet?
If they have been used, can i transfer ownership?
If they haven't been used, then consider them for sale, any takers?

I believe used CAL's can simply be transferred (Max once per month or something), If unused then you would simply assign the CAL. Are they issued directly from MS or a Reseller?

They say 'Dell' on them, so i assume they must be from them as resellers.

Does anyone know if those being issued by Dell is an issue or not?

If the licences say "Dell" on them they are probably OEM licences (look for the letters OEM on the licence). If so - these are only legally valid on the machine on which they were sold with and cannot be transfered or reallocated to another server. In this case they are not of any value to anyone else without the original server.Microsoft also don't accept most support call issues for OEM licences - part of the terms of the licence is any issues have to be addressed back to the reseller in question (in this case that would be Dell).The Microsoft support desk should be able to tell you if a licence is legal or not, but unless it is an Open Licence they can't track ownership back to a named company.Hope this helps

Hi Bogtrotter, Thanks for the info.
They don't say OEM on them anywhere.
I don't think they are the ones which came with the server as part of a package.
I believe those were sold with the actual Server.
I am also certain that these are additional licenses purchased at the same time of the Server purchase. Not sure if that's of benefit or hindrance.....

I will give MS another try and will report my findings
