Would you rent a printer?

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had thought about renting a printer rather than buying one? And if so, laser, inkjet, mono or colour?

Any thoughts on this area would be greatly appreciated!

PS This idea involves businesses rather than home users - but please let me know if you are a home user thats interested!

Hi,

For home I wouldn't rent one. But if I was running a larger business I would consider it. I think you can get tax relief from renting equipment for business use (ask on tax section). Maybe you could offer free servicing and repair for rentals.

We currently rent copy machine, and A3 Colour printer with full servicing.

exactly what I was thinking - Paresh - I try to print as ;ittle as possible. Really it's only the accounts stuff that gets printed - everything else is online.

And in addition you've stocked me right up with extra cartridges so I'm probably ok for the next millenium

I did add a 'no' button. But It must of come off when I edited the post!

Anyone know how to correct it and add it back on as I have tried too?

I think it realy all comes down to cost. The work im in can involve a lot of printing at times but does not justify the purchase of a realy expensive printer. I currently have an Epson R800 which is not bad for personal stuff and test prints to see what something looks like.

Usualy when I get things printed for clients I send it away to be done by a dedicated printer who has some top class print devices. I do this because it works out cheaper for me as I only usualy do small print runs and they offer a high quality service that I could never attain with my home printer.

A lot of companies I have worked at Rent their print equipment from a 3rd party. I think the main reason for this is that when something goes wrong they can just call the company and get them to fix it for them. I have never heard of any of them hiring inkjets though allways laser or colour laser devices.

I think color lasers and higher end printers would be popular with businesses but only if there was a benefit for them - free servicing, reduced consumables, tax relief etc.

I would rather pay buy useage. Well we have just had a call re this and it sounds good so I will let you know if we take them up on it. Mind you the salesman is stupid which does not help becuase he will not listen to what we need.

Now if only the place with the golden arches headhunted............

I must admit that like matrix I do as little as possible in terms of printing. Most returns are filed online and clients get their accounts etc by e mail.

Good quality inkjet printers are extremely cheap now anyway so the only things I would consider is a good quality scanner/ photocopier. (Particularly due to the fact that I try to keep all documentation stored on my computers, with several backups)
