This is probably a really silly question, but I keep getting asked for the URL of my banner, when I am setting up reciprocal links and I don't know what that is. I have my various different banners on my hard drive as GIFs, but haven't got a specific page for them.

Could someone please put me out of my ill-informed misery?

Thanks,

Kate.

Thank you.

But, what if I want one of the smaller ones that are not on my site? Can I only do a URL, I have them listed somewhere? They are really only for the reciprocal linking.

If you have them hosted somewhere Kate then there will be a direct link to them. Alternatively just email the banner to the people that want it and let them host it

Great! Well, Toni, your site was the final straw, when I tried today to add a link, you asked for the URL of the banner and as you already have them in an email, please could you add one :D Thank you.

I think the easiest solution to this would be to add them all somewhere unobstrusive on my site and then I have the url's.

Thank you for all your help.

You can not get much more unobtrusive than not refefencing them on any of your web pages, just have the files loaded up ready for you to reference them when you need to.

It can make life easier though to have a handy page that is not linked to from anywhere but which you can remember where all the different banners are displayed with details under them so you can just right click on a banner, copy the uri and then paste it into whatever site you are adding your banner to.

I like the idea, but am currently having a problem with this, as my entire site has been written in Actinic Catalog and it seems to add all pages to the navigation tree without exception.

I have previously used Frontpage, so understand how to make a totally standalone page and then link it where and when necessary, but not have it on the navigation. This is proving impossible with Actinic.

Ah, I see your problem. Sorry, I have only passing experience with Actinic although I thought that there was a way to not to do this. Perhaps work asking in one of the Atctinic forums. I take it for granted that I can create additional directories for my own purposes on my own websites. Must be somewhat irritating. Perhaps someone will be along in bit who does know Actinic.

If you want to pm me we can arrange that you mail me the banners and I will upload them to one of my servers and give you the URL's for them.

Kate I was going to say the same, Im quite happy to host these for you. Another option is to using something like photobucket

Every time I add a page to my website it automatically comes up in the navigation bar on the left and I haven't found a way of stopping that from happening, so that I can just have separate pages of content which I can link to if I want to.

It would be best if you hosted the banners under the same domain as the business they are refering to especially if other sites use them directly rather than copies. It also makes it easier for you to update them at your convenience. The trick, as you have pointed out, if finding out how to prevent Actinic putting such a directory into your navigation tree automatically.

(Mind you, you should be able to get away with just the images.)

Yes, Kyber, a page of images should be fine, but my current problem is that all content, is coming up as hidden links and I have so much more to add.

Can you not ftp to your site and create a "banner" directory without affecting the script you are using ?

Errrr .... lost me now!

Thing is, I could apparently, have other things on my domain written just with HTML and uploaded, but then when I upload the whole site (in Actinic) it will overwrite it.
