Removal of website - company closed down

One of my competitors went in to administration at the start of the year.

Their website is still on the first page of Google for a particular keyword.

Their phone just rings out and they are not trading etc.

If they keep their content and website live will it still stay in the results?

Do they have to remove the website or can they just keep it there?

Can I report the website to Gooooooooooogle?

No reason to think otherwise.

Why should the site be removed/ it is a company asset and they are in administration, someone might buy it as an asset

Report them for what? The site is a legitimate site, assuming it has no broken the guidelines why would google remove it? The owner of the company might well buy this asset and continue trading! What has that to do with google. If 'the phone rining out' is a reason to remove a website, half the companies in the UK would get removed

Here is a thought, why not approach the administrators and offer them £250 for the site.

With no-one working on their site at least their ranking won't go up

If they are not trading, nobody will do any business with them so you won't lose out in that respect, customers will just move on to the next site. Old Welsh Guy's idea of offering them a price is an excellent idea. The administrators probably won't know the value of it and you may well get a good deal!

It's not a particularly competitive keyword and we are only 2 positions behind it after ~3 months of SEO work.

The site is PR0, has 4 inbound links BUT has been registered since 1999

Is it still worth buying?

I've left a message with the administrators anyway.

It could benefit you greatly! On your website annouce your latest news. Your successful buyout of a another website, but let customers know the reason why their website redirects to yours. Not only do you get the Google keyword advantage, it makes you look bigger to your customers and your spending power to buy out your competitors.

The other advantage is any authority your competitor currently has (links seen and not seen) will be passed onto yourself, it gives you a big advantage over other competitors as well

I wouldn't bother.

If you're already only 2 places back and they only have 4 incoming links you should outrank them in no time at all.
