Affiliate marketing -- can anyone help with info?

Does anyone know anything about affiliate schemes (decent ones!)

I would like to set up a scheme whereby other (appropriate) websites carry a banner ad for our book and if anyone buys through them they get paid a certain percentage of the RRP (probably something like 10% -- although if anyone knows what the standard amount is, I'd be interested to know that too!). We could track sales and then send a cheque at the end of the month.

I like the idea of other people earning a bit from our book and 'viral' marketing is the way forward for us because we're such a small company and can't market the book the way Pearson or Kogan Page market their business books, we just don't have that kind of budget...

It's something I have no experience of, so any help would be great.

Julie, there are plenty of scripts around, you can get a basic script online from free to a couple of hundred dollars, an all singing all dancing one which a client of mine is currently installing cost around £1200 so you pays ya money and takes ya choice !

Hi Julie,

Have you thought about offering a discount to all of us on UKBF? It might be worth a try!

The networks that are worth joining will require a joing fee and then you will have to pay a set amount each month/ meet an overide fee. Affiliate programs work better if you have more than one product - you'll need to create a variety of banners and text links. Also, you'll need someone to manage an affiliate program your end. I would suggest you log in as a publisher to network providers to get an idea as to how you think your product would perform. The more specialised the product the greater the reward you will need. If you want any more advice pm me - I have worked at a major network and also run affiliate programs as a manager for some clients.
