Hello from Redbucket ICT & E-Business Advice!

Hello all!

I was until March 2005 the ICT & E-Business Adviser for Northamptonshire Chamber's Business Link, the UK's national business advisory service.

A cut in funding from central government just before the election (coincidence!?!) here in the UK lead to me being made redundant and forming Redbucket ICT & E-Business Advice.

I offer all the usual ICT & E-Business Advice that you might expect, but I do have some particular specialisms.

Under the banner UK Online for Business, part of OpenGov, I was the face of the launch of the Information Security webpage with saw me undertake media training and work in the printed, radio and television media. I also had stringent Information Security training.

I am a Finjan Security Product Accredited Reseller and offer a free network security check to demonstrate how even networks considered fairly secure are vulnerable.

I hope to use the forums here at Teneric to electronically network as well as being involved in debate!

Hi, welcome to the forums! It sounds as though you know what you're talking about, and your expertise will be very welcome on the forums. If I may make some comments on your website though;

-You need a Doctype!
-You need encoding, keywords, and description meta-tags

these are the essentials for search engines and forward compatability with browsers. If you need a more detailed explaination, just say and I'll post the code.

Google does use the description tag..? Besides which, it certainly doesn't do any harm to get yourself listed on other search engines!

It surprised me too - what happened was that I hadn't changed my description tag from yonks ago and then I was searching on Google trying to find my site and the meta description came up as part of the content part of the results.

So even now I'm unsure if Google actually uses them for ranking but it had included the contents of the tag in the results.

regardless of wether or not it counts for the ranking, it does allow you to give a clear description to would-be visitors, as opposed to a chunk a information Google pulls out at random...The number of sites that have the description "Main page about contact us information..." :)
