Tycoon, well here we go, lets see if it's any good.....

Or what the tabloids think "A Rip Off"

What aload of rubbish already he is closing 1 business down.

I thought the idea was to come up with unique ideas I only can see one partnership which has done that and one sole person.

This program is good but wont last long!

Quite a funny episode, especially the newspaper. It was only an A3 leaflet!

Also £45 for a polo shirt to use in the garden??

Some of the ideas are rubbish and some of the comments peter made were just funny

That young lad seems to think its not important to tell someone who is investing that you have a huge competitor starting up!

That 'young lad' got on my nerves in precisely.... 10 seconds.

We thought perhaps the woman pinched his brolly, hence being sacked next week :)

Its kind of strange to keep hearing Peter Jones saying how much he's risking his OWN money when he's got so much of it:) I thought the prog was a poor relation to The Apprentice and even the candidates were worse and thats saying something! I hope when that guys container of helicopters lands at Southampton, they all work as he expects:eek:

Show = pretty OK, People on show = Not Good

If the Helicopters that man is going to buy, are the same as the ones that were on show at certain points such as on his desk, then I feel sorry for him, that helicopter is nothing more than a cheap tacky toy, He mentioned his being half the price of something of the same caliber, erm....no, I have a R/C helicopter that cost £100 so, it should be the same as his 'cheap' ones, I think not.....his is a toy, mine is an enthusiasts model...doesn't have the self rotational system, I.E the two sets of rotor blades stacked on top of one another, doesn't have that nasty ring around the blades etc etc...it looks like a real helicopter, not a cheap toy, dear oh dear

Secondly, that boy, an A3 piece of paper, his voice (no offence but it really did irritate me)

£45 for a polo shirt, wtf is that all about?

I have Quins or Quims, not going to check the fridge for correct name/spelling, in my fridge, that is.....a real fruit juice drink with vodka...Oh Dear, thats another floored plan, she deserves to get the boot...

that other man, selling the bag bagger thing, WHY WHY WHY, I have one of those on the back of my back door in the kitchen, lots of people have them, they could just take that to the bleedin shops.

I think it could be a good program, if there were any new Innovative Ideas...

I think it is too early to comment on the ideas to be honest, we don't have any major detail yet.

And to be fair those polo shirts have been selling at £45 so far. Gardening seems to be popular with affluent types.

I like Peter Jones so as long as he is in it, I believe it will be excellent.

PS The book is good. :)

Even the shots of Peter getting out of his car made me think "The Apprentice".

Tom's arrogance completely annoyed me. "I'm so proud of this" was never going to be a good thing to say.

PJ makes me laugh - he seems to really want to be a celeb but he just doesn't seem comfortable with it.

I saw Duncan Bannatyne on a comedy panel show at the weekend and I thought "fish out of water".

DB so desperately wants to be a celeb, but just doesn't have "TV charm" and always seems to be squirming.

So, when I saw the beginning of Tycoon, I was thiking "Peter Jones is far better on the TV than Duncan Bannatyne. He's fluent and comes across as a decent enough bloke."

But, I guess it's all relative.

I think PJ has made a serious error with this show.

Not a single good protectable USP between the lot of them.
Ill researched and Ill thought out: not one of the ideas would survive
the normal VC process in their present state.

(except perhaps the hair extensions because that lady could easily become her own brand - which would be unique- and designer names matter in fashion - although it is a tough business to get established in)

You can bet if pink wellies become all the rage, then B&Q will fill up with cheap pink wellies, what is to stop them? You can hardly patent pink wellies with lip gloss pockets!

And the lass with the vodka shots, clearly knows nothing about the business she is trying to enter. Alcopops generally have been in decline in the last few years - with more and more generic "cheap brands" trying to undercut existing players: it really doesnt need another brand competing for the same space.

Sure, you can probably sell remote control helicopters. As we speak you can buy a big job lot of them on liquidation.com and sell them in wholesale quantities on ebay. So what? It is hardly a world beating business.

PJ said on his website the ideas had to have "personal significance" for him - I dont see that at all.

It is difficult to see how PJ came up with this lot, and I think he should have made a show out of the criteria he used and how he came to select the people he did.

I think he must have had a realisation, that to make good theatre prorgress had to be fast: and the fact that money had to be made by the participants in days or weeks almost eliminated all of the serious business plans which would have taken too long to get running.

Agree - and his voice is soooooooooo annoying! All he seemed to do was walk around and say "well done" to everyone - no wonder he didn't get his mock-up done on-time!

AND....he seemed genuinely shocked that the printers didn't work over the bank holiday! :|

I enjoyed the program but I have to say, is Peter really that appalling at interviewing and choosing the right people??? I would never in a million years even considered any of them to invest any of my own money, they just really are "not investible".
Idea's (all apart from the garden ones) are naff, the people are dreamers without drive or hunger, and Peter really does not appear to have done any research into the markets for these ideas which is a big mistake for an investor. I can't help but feel this program is lot less serious than any of the other reality business shows.

I agree with Ozzy, all seemed a bit, put on just because it's been made you know..to be honest the gardening Idea isn't really that great, as they can't protect anything except there brand....which, for gardening!!! I don't think would be a big issue for any competitors releasing pink wellies!

I didn't like the fact he kept saying it was his money he's putting on these people....If it was his money, I'm sure he would have different people in his offices...think about it, the progam is sponsored by Gillette, he's already sold the show to ITV, he's quids in!

It's pathetic if those were the best ideas :/

Im pretty sure that Tom guy was gay/camp. Also why did he need printers for such a thing, chances are there office has a printer that could print his newsletter.

That is exactly my thoughts too. I've made a post on their forums replying to someone elses comment. I wonder if the mods there will let it stay or remove it?

I wasn't rude but gave what I think is constructive feedback on the program.

...and I'm annoyed.... I couldn't have the username of Ozzy because it was too short, you have to have at least 6 characters in your username :(

OK checking my history this is what I posted...
I enjoyed watching the show, it was definitely good entertainment but I believe that is all it is.
I run my own businesses and have sold a few. In the media I may not be as successful as Peter but I really hope his interview and people selection skills are a lot better than the show portrays them to be otherwise I'm very disappointed in someone who I originally believed to be pretty damn smart.

I would never invest in any of those ideas, although on the face of it the garden gear seems to be "edited" to look like the safest bet. The people on the show don't have enough drive or fear of failure to really be what I would call successful entrepreneurs. The closest ones may again be the garden girls but again I think they look too safer bet too early on in the show, so in true programming style I do suspect one of the under dogs will come out on top.

Great television but I cannot yet take it seriously. The contestants seem just too pathetic for me to take it seriously as an investment program, surely these were not the best of the applicants??? (or is Peter, or his aides, really that bad and choosing good business ideas and people?)

Its on the series link though as it is too early (only one show) to write it off. I hope the show improves because it has the potential to be better than Dragons Den.

I small word for PJ's people skills. Biting at someone then turning your back on them to get in your car to drive off shocked my wife and I, it was very rude and made you look in our eyes to be obnoxious. I'm sure we would not be alone in that thought. The lad may have hidden quite a fundamental flaw in his model from you, but he's a kid and you could have handled the situation a lot better. Again you lost a lot of my respect for you in that moment.

All the ideas suck even the hair extenstion i mean come on you can pick them up for £0.39 from the market

That made me laugh - it seems you have very precise pricing details for these :)

And also Ozzy being over-moderated - what a great thread :):)

I didn't see the program and came in here to guage everyones views - not too good by all accounts. Glad I came in though for the 2 points above :)

So, when I saw the beginning of Tycoon, I was thiking "Peter Jones is far better on the TV than Duncan Bannatyne. He's fluent and comes across as a decent enough bloke."

He certainly seems to be in real life too. I met him with Theo at a network9ing event last year and they were both very nice guys (I wasn't too keen on Theo before that) and had lots of time for everyone.

He is ridiculously tall though!

The programme was a complete joke in my opinion, and is little more than a vehicle for Peter Jones to become a bigger celebrity.

The show is made by Peter Jones TV, so it is clearly something that they came up with in order to put PJ in the spotlight. It's not as though ITV came up with an idea, then approached him to front it! Pure PR.

The ideas are rubbish and the style of the show, with the background music and fast changing shots, is very American and cheap.

As for the aerial shots of London and the chauffer driven Bentley - complete rip off from the Apprentice.

Complete tat from start to finish!

Apart from that it was ok :)

This just goes to show how editors on TV programs can shape the image of someone. My impression of Theo from the Dragons Den is that he is arrogant and abrassive, but from what you say he is nothing like that.
My impression of Peter Jones from Tycoon is that he has very poor people skills, but perhaps that is wrong?

(I'm still being moderated on the ITV forums :))

Sad to say Ozzy , you havent been moderated!

I talked to PJ at NEC and threw a couple of ideas at him in discussion...

he said "you have got to pitch!"

So they made a space for me to pitch , I had one minute in front of the cameras

he said "you are through to round two!"

The idea I threw at him ( amongst others) was for a business with serious IPR, and potential billion pound size... ( it was to do with cheap automation of the diagnosis of meningitis)

I was asked to fill in a couple of forms and so I did, but i noticed the question "what Idea have you that can make wealth fast"
but on the forms I said, "you asked for ideas to make wealth fast this wont do it - it will take years - regulatory issues" , but here are two more ideas with serious class - that can be done quickly - both with IPR , but would have taken six months to get moving with revenue ( as would most serious physical businesses)

And in response to that I was told, sorry! you are no longer in round two!

The fastest exit from tycoon!

It seems to me all he wants is theatre , not interested in serious ideas.

I have a post count of 3, but only one is visible ;). I've actually made a few more than that, but after trimming my original first post it seems they have decided to leave that one up there.

About time someone moderated your posts! How come you got away with it for so long on here? Is it because you are a fantastic moderator, brilliant golfer and all round just great guy?
