My favorite one Screaming Frog. It takes seconds to get a list of indexed links, missing meta tags, h tags and duplicated content list.

Hi, yep, second this - you generally need a suite of tools for SEO (including knowledge of course) and Google pretty much provide all the tools you need.

If you're just starting - start with Google Analytics & Webmaster tools.

Consider page load time nowadays too - it's a bit part of the new algo'.

Where would a workman be without his toolkit? This is another great toolbar which contains a lot of valuable and essential tools of the trade. It has many of the same features as SEO Quake but also a few more hidden up its sleeve. You can compare up to 5 different sites which is great for link analysis for competitor research and another great gem is an easy no follow link highlighter.

To sum it up, most people here suggest you:
- tools for Google (these tools are vital for your online marketing, however they're mainly for SEM - not for SEO)
- info-products (blogs, forums, seomoz, ukbusinessforums, etc)
- backlink research tools (OSE, ahrefs, BLWatch)
- brain, excel, docs, notepad, whatever - mainly from the guys who think they're wit and smart :\

I'd suggest looking at some integrated and SEO-related tools/platforms - many of them have a lot of suggestions, lists, steps-to-do built-in already and might be pretty useful. You may try tools like the ones from seomzo, webmeup, maybe raven, etc, but the only possible way to find the right tools is to try, sorry for that (and yes, I hope nobody told you SEO is an easy thing, right? ;))

Tools that I use often are SEO for chrome and Mozbar extensions on Google chrome. I can quickly access PR and DA of websites just by the click of a button. And both are free.

I have work with lot of tools but really Open Site Explorer has lot of stuff that cannot be seen at any tool. Apart of the open site explore I use Outshine Health Meter, Back Links Watch, SEO Chat Tools that are really good and may server useful information that is helpful on promoting any website or services

· Google Analytics. A great tool to get you started. Even the most advanced professional who make SEO a full-time job are using Google Analytics. · AdWords Keyword Tool. Completing keyword research is an incredibly important aspect of SEO (you have to know what and where to optimize, after all). · Open Site Explorer. This tool will help you find link opportunities through competitor backlink research. The tool comes from SEOmoz and helps you determine if you can earn the same links that your competitors have earned (not to mention do a little bit of snooping).
· SEO by Yoast. This is my favorite SEO plugin to install on a website. It helps walk you through the different steps of SEO to make sure that you’re optimizing each and every webpage. This works best when you’re focusing on optimizing the content on your website.
· PageRank Status. You can download a free browser extension to help you see the PageRank of every webpage you visit. This will help beginners get a sense of where the website ranks on Google (it doesn’t always mean that one website is better quality than another, but it does mean it is more established). This is a great way to find authoritative link building opportunities. You can see SEO stats, site info, page info and page speed all by just clicking on the plugin.
· Google Webmaster Tools. Every SEO professional has a Google Webmaster Tools account, so the sooner beginners get on board, the better. The tool allows you to monitor the indexing of your website, keyword clicks, sitemaps, and lists of links (external as well as internal) to you site.
· Bing Webmaster Tools. You can’t forget that Bing is still the number three search engine out there, so optimizing for it is important even if you’re a beginner. Bing has a few different features than Google Webmaster Tools, but for the most part it serves the same purpose—giving you insight as to the number of clicks, links, indexing, etc.
