There are many options when it comes to financing businesses and many viable alternatives to the traditional bank loan or overdraft. What's your priority when looking for business finance?

I can't really vote because it depends on the conditions of the loan and also what is loan needed for?

If it is to finance the working capital, then I assume it would be cost.

If you think you found a good deal with importing something and quickly sell it in the UK, I would say speed of getting the funding in place and then cost.

I think finance facilities are out there, we work with lenders every day arranging finance for our clients, even if they have been declined elsewhere.

Now we also meet a lot of people seeking finance who none of us would be that keen on lending £50, so I understand the lenders shying away from requests for £000s.

Returning to the original question, what's important does vary on the circumstances of the borrower and what is going to be achieved with the money.:)

I think the thing that has changed in the last 5 years or so is customer expectation. A situation that was caused by the banks' irresponsible attitude to lending, and continued by the Governments' (yes all of them!) ridiculous message about 'forcing banks to lend'

In my role as asset finance broker, I have been quite impressed by lenders' willingness to lend, and frequently shocked by the attitude of potential borrowers, refusal to offer guarantees on loss-making businesses or, in the worst cases, expecting top class terms on accounts that frankly send shudders down the spine!

The rules have tightened but haven't fundamentally changed - would you lend your own money? If not, why should we?
