Claude Hopkins - Scientific Advertising

Thoughts anyone?

I'd really like to hear thoughts on the famous book by Claude Hopkins.

You can download it for free as a PDF - PM me if you want the link.

... and business owners.

My advice would be to skip the pdf and buy the book.

There are 3 reasons why:

(1) It doesn't cost much.

(2) Do you really read pdfs? Or, do they sit on your computer unread? You're far more likely to read a book.

(3) The paper copy is coupled with his autobiography "My Life In Advertising", which is IMO - and in the opinion of people like Jay Abraham - even better.

Just my 2p,

Steve

Not the easiest of reads

I have heard that Jay Abraham has read Scientific Advertising about 50 to 60 times.

It is not the easiest of reads but much is as true today as it was when Claude Hopkins wrote it.

Another oldie but goldie that I can recommend is Obvious Adams by Robert Updegraf

John Carlton tells the story that, when he first wrote copy for Jay, Jay had a rule that any copywriter working for him had to have read the book at least 8 times.

(which, incidentally, Carlton had already done)

Darren, The book is IMHO invaluable but it depends on what you want to gain from it. If you are into Marketing etc then it's a must read. I have over 1,000 books on Marketing, Copywriting etc and it is something I return to for reference often.

I would humbly endorse it.
