If looking or a service do you look in any of these directories?
I have just got my yellow pages and put it in the recycling. I just don't use it anymore. Especially as over the years they have got smaller and smaller and do not give enough variety, they only list payers and some of those that don't pay to advertise may be a much better service.
I tend to look on the internet.

I voted local directories, as in, the free local directory we get in the back of our (every 2 month) Parish magazine, and local admag that comes once a quarter.
Is that what you meant by Local Directories?

There are many little directories that are local. There are about five that we have access to if we want them. We get two come through the door on a six monthly basis and other local ones that are left in shops and others even in Tesco.
So any local directory really, such as the Parish one as mentioned.
How many people get rid of their yellow pages like I did?

INternet only.
I think everyone should use the internet for local services.

I only ever tend to use Yell. I'm a share holder too (unfortunately!).

I tend to just go straight on the internet. The categories in these directories can be quite poor as well.

I've done same with my (now very tiny) yellow pages... Straight in the bin.
The Internet is my first port of call, and gives me more information than a one line listing in the YP.
Saying that, we have a few local business directories in our area, one monthly, one quarterly, that have local news articles/information of events, that sort of thing. I do tend to read through these, and will look at some of the local advertising in there.
A quick look at advertising rates for quarter page advert (directory is A5) is about £65/month and £260 for a full page colour advert.
Whether it is worth taking a punt on an advert? I'm undecided....

Even locksmiths and electrician's should be online as most people have a mobile phone with internet access when they are locked out of have an electric fault.........
Also I am sure old people without a computer ask their family or friends to find a tradesman online they can trust

I use the internet but also the local A5 booklet that is posted every couple of months.... that said, I am currently putting together a local directory - which offers further services - so its combines both the local directory and t'internet side of the poll..... fingers crossed!
